A few days before Christmas, I bought a bracelet at this store. Last week I was completely surprised to receive a Kay Jewelers credit card in the mail! I went through the paperwork which I had kept together and there was nothing about a credit card.
I took my paperwork back to the store on January 10, and asked for the manager. The sales lady I spoke with said the manager was at lunch but should be back in about 5 minutes; in the meantime, she asked if she could help. I explained that I had received a credit card in the mail and she jumped in and finished my sentence by saying "which you did not ask for." Yes!, I said, surprised. Her saying those words in that manner made me suspect this has happened to others, and lead me to find Ripoff Report.com.
She turned me over to another sales lady who made a phone call (to somewhere unknown) and told me that whoever she spoke to confirmed that I had requested a credit card. But they could not show me a copy of such a request and I was never given any paperwork confirming that I had done so or containing information about having a credit card with them. I was shown a blank credit card application form and was told this is what I would have signed. I replied that I did not recall signing a form that looked like that. However, I definitely recall that no one ever mentioned the words "credit card" because if they had I would have declined.
This is deceptive marketing and I am very angry that it will affect my credit score.
If anyone out there wants to do a class action lawsuit, count me in! I don't even want money - let the lawyer have it all! What I want is a letter from Kay Jewelers sent to the 3 big credit reporting agencies that will get this stain on my credit removed. I'm going to take back the bracelet I bought because everytime I look at it I will be reminded of this underhanded trick! I have also filed a complaint with my state's Better Business Bureau.

How did they get your SSN

One requirement in order to get a credit card is that they need your Social Security Number. So did you just give them your SSN without questioning why they needed it? If so I really hope you don't make that a habbit because this makes you a prime target for Identity Theft.
But a bigger question is that if you had a Credit Card opened up, how did you pay for this bracelet? Did it end up on this card as well?
By the way, unless you are going for a loan or different credit in the next few months this account is not a "huge stain" on your credit. In fact it may even help it as time goes on. Now, don't get me wrong I am not saying that they did a good thing if in fact they somehow "snuck" a credit card in or that you shouldn't close it. Just that the anything more than short term "damage" is the least of your concerns.

How did they open a credit card for you without your social security number? That would raise some serious questions.
