Keiser College ripoff....Degree not worth the cost! Melbourne florida

I also attended keiser back in the late 90's. This school should definately be investigated, there's no reason to give them a break.

I was enrolled in their computer network admin curriculum, I already had some computer knowledge going into the course, one of the instructors they hired was doing such a horrible job teaching the course I told him what he was doing wrong and he asked if I would teach that part of the course. The lab instructor we had was more interested in sitting and talking with the cute girls in class rather than offer any help in the lab.

They were very adamant about wearing ties, they should have had as much conviction with hiring their instructors and teaching the proper courses. I am currently looking for a way out of my loans owed during that time due to a poor education.

I am a student at Keiser College and will be achieving my AS in January of 2010. During my time at Keiser I went through good times and bad. Sure there were mistakes made but considering the jobs that the people at Keiser are doing there must be a margin of error that cannot be ignored. Things happen. It's not because they don't care or are unable to perform properly, it's because they are human and are just as prone to make mistakes as you and I. Do we agree on everything, absolutely NOT, but the benefits far outweigh the detriments and I have always been welcome to voice my opinions and objections when I felt strongly about something.

These people have in the past and are to this day breaking their butts to get me through this course. When I lost my job and could not pay my fees the people at Keiser found a way to help. They waived my fees and dug deeper than anyone could expect for financial help to aid me. They have demonstrated extreme dedication and interest to my success.

I plan on continuing my education at Keiser to recieve a bachelors degree and then one day attend a law school.

I am proud of what I have achieved so far by attending Keiser College and am proud of the dedication and concern that the people there have shown towards helping me achieve my dream of being the first college graduate in my family since my grandfather back in 1920.

Give the good people at Keiser College a break! If anyone is dissatisfied with their experience at Keiser then perhaps they should look into themself and ask if there was something they could have done to make the experience more rewarding.

I forced my wife to go back to college and after months of research did in fact go through Keiser College and obtained a degree. That degree was worth 63 credits which all were pid to Keiser by the federal government via school loans we had to get. By the way, Keiser is accredited regionally, and what accreditation means, is a school is recognized by CHEA and DOE to provide federal strudent loans. There is national and regional accfreditation, and many of your correspondence type schools are nationally accredited because they cannot offer federal loans and oyu pay all the way. Regional accreditation, which is what most people losely throw around means the schools have federal funding available and you do not necessarily pay as you go.

Ayway, Just as my wife was to complete the AS and wanted to continue into the BA level, Keiser told her they all of a sudden made a curriculum change and now, her 63 credits were worth only 40 credits! Talk about a scam!

I was outraged to find this, and my wife ceased going to Keiser, though she did get the AS degree in hospital management and the trasncripts show 63 credit hours worked for (and paid for).

How can Keiser change credit hours after the fact and especially since they took federal government loan funds to pay for 63 credit hours of course work?

This needs to be investigated fast, as of this posting, my wife cannot get a job still with this degree from Keiser and we are responsible to repay nearly $20,000.00 in college loans we cannot with our limited incomes. RIght now my wife has found another college program to continue through, though we will have to pay all new application and administrative costs just for her to continue so those loans can be deferred further.

The whole US education system has become nothing more than another major corporate entity of money making and manipulation to force people to pay for more which translates into the institutions receiving more and more monies fopr themselevs.

Keiser is definitely for-profit. At times it seems like that is all they care about. They put on a horrible charade about being "student oriented" and that public education is over-crowded and outdated. Now the statement about public education is of course argumentative but what is fact is that Keiser's stance on the subject allows them to justify their ridiculous tuition prices.

If a responsible consumer was to do a price comparison of Keiser compared to other online colleges/universities you would find that Keiser is one of the most expensive institutions out there.

I started the admissions process a few months ago and it started off great but it went south quickly after the ether wore off. It starts off with an Admissions Counselor calling you and telling all about how great their college is. They get you excited and get you to enroll for one of their start dates which always seem to be right around the corner. Now before I go any further let me fair by saying that from what I know and have heard this is the same type of tactics that most for-profit colleges out there behave, including the "biggies" like Kaplan, AIU, and Univ of Phoenix.

Where most horror stories come up is when it comes to tuition/fees or financial aid (see other schools postings for more info). You see Keiser is so expensive that even if you get the maximum amount of money from the federal government you are only about 80% of the way there. Mind you that maximum award from the government is roughly $10,500! And the amount they try to "package" you for is for only two of their semesters which of course is only a fraction of the program.

So where does one go from there t make up the difference? Well then Keiser tries to sell you on taking out a credit-based loan from Sallie Mae. Why is this bad? Besides all of the bad stories posted on this site about Sallie Mae they are simply a lender that thrives on usury. They have horrible interest rates and credit requirements for even qualifying for the privilege of being screwed by them. To make matters worse Keiser's Financial Aid department only seems interested in selling Sallie Mae and they will not make any mention of any other lenders that might be out there. No Bank of America, no Wachovia, no one.

Now this is where in the enrollment process I started feel like something was fishy. This is when I did a price comparison between Keiser and other institutions. I quickly ended my association with Keiser soon after that and thank God. When I started attending online classes at another school I happened to come across a classmate that had actually attended Keiser and she had some horror stories of her own.

It seems like things are great initially but if you try to register a complaint about the academics or staff they simply begin to ignore you. Repeated requests for help or resolution go unanswered. So if you want to enroll or make a payment you will get through immediately but if you want to file a complaint you will get the run around. Simply put Keiser is all about its students until the check clears the bank then all bets are off.

My personal opinion is to go to a public community college or university if you have the time. If online is absolutely necessary then find the cheapest option that is properly accredited.

1) Keiser Colleges (www.keisercollege.edu) are accredited by U.S. Department of Education (USDE) and Council for Higher Education (CHEA) recognized agencies. However, at least according to CHEA, their accreditation varies by campus location. Visit the www.chea.org institutional database to learn more about the specific accreditation each campus possesses.



Some of the listed institutional accreditors include: The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACS), The Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES), The Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges of Technology (ACCSCT), and The Council on Occupational Education (COE). SACS is a regional accreditor, and the others are national accreditors.



2) Until fairly recently, only regionally accredited colleges were allowed to use dot edu domain names. Nationally accredited schools were not permitted to use that domain. However, realizing how ridiculous and discriminatory this policy was, EDUCAUSE (in charge of dot edu) made a much needed change. Now, all schools with recognized forms of institutional accreditation are eligible to register dot edu websites. This may be why the school may have had trouble obtaining a dot edu in the past?



3) Many real accredited colleges and universities have open admissions policies. This especially applies to career schools and junior and community colleges; where anyone with high school or GED diplomas will be admitted. Similarly, some graduate schools only require applicants to have earned Bachelor's degrees from accredited schools. Schools with open admissions policies do serve a vital role. As a result of open policies, students who did not do well in high school or on ACT/SAT exams have the opportunity to prove themselves at the college level.



4) Billy, regardless of whether you enjoyed the Keiser experience, you now possess a real accredited A.S. degree. If you refer to it as a cliff notes version, so will potential employers. Be proud of the degree you worked to earn. If you are that unhappy, you could always transfer to an accredited 4 year college and complete a Bachelor's degree in your major. Non-traditional and for-profit schools definitely have their place within the higher education community. However, many of these schools need to increase their student services, and drastically improve their appearance of legitimacy. They need to start acting more like schools and less like businesses. I am not sure if Keiser is for profit or non-profit.

Although I have not obtained any degrees from Keiser. I paid close to 5 grand in the late 1990's to take the MCSE program. The equip sucked a*s and all but one of the teachers sat up and re-read the book.



If something screwed up in the lab during an exercise, they had no clue how to fix.. I obtained the certification but the class was absolutely worthless.. only motivated me to spend more time at home studying (cause I paid so much)



I am friends with a former recuiter for Keiser. She stated that she was in a sales position, not an education recruiter & that they would get in trouble if they did not meet quota's each semester.



As a Melbourne Professional for 10yrs, Keiser DOES have a, not so stellar reputation. They have really no min requirements to enroll, except tuition!! I am not sure if they are even accredited??



I know that when I went there, they had a real hard time getting a .edu status for their webpage & came close to being denied. You are much better off going to BCC.
