I purchased a 4 yr old gelding Dale Pony from the breeder Ken Raspotnik in April of 2013 paid in full at that time of $4,500 .  He was vet check and in good health and was suppose to be fully trained to ride and drive.  When he arrived in Colorado on May 22, 2013 he was un settled nervous and afraid of his own shadow.  I thought this was because he was in a new situation, but he never seemed to settle in.  After month I called the breeder and told him the issues he had and he was nervous on the phone and offered to give me some money back to have him trained.  He gave me $1,500 .  One Month later figuring this was the end of my issues on July 22, 2013 My new horse Coliced and detached his colon all unexpectedly.  He went into toxification and kidney failure and had to be put down.  The vet did an autopsy and found he had massive dirt and granite in his intestents that had built up over more than a year or two or more.   This was not Colorado dirt and the 2 months I had him did not do this to him.  He had come to me in this condition and finally took its toll.  I called the breeder and told him what happened and he said it was not his problem and he never had a horse of his have this kind of issue.  I asked him to do the right thing and reimburse me my $3,000.00 and he said no, and proceeded to say unacceptable things to me and fowl lanugage.  I am an experienced horse person for 45 + yrs and always did the right thing for my horses and never had someone treat me this way.  I feel he should return my monies since he had this issue and you can't detect this unless the horse gets sick.  I miss him very much and want the breeder to be aware this could happen to any of his horses since they are on pasture 24/7 and consume dirt when eatting grass.  He is in denial and rude and not understanding the problem here.

Update Ken Raspotnik Farm 10/2/13

AUTHOR: Ellen - ()

POSTED: Wednesday, October 02, 2013

It was brought to my attention over the last couple of days that 2 more people who purchased young horses from Ken Raspotnik have had trouble with their horses.  One died of a heart issue and one had hip issues from training them too early @ the age of 2yr. by breeder.  Both horses were owned about a year and their owners have been upset with the out come.  As with my above complaint I only had my horse 2 months and he passed away from breeder error , heart and kidney failure and inadequate care in the intestents on breeders part.  Mr Raspotnik still beleives it is not his problem and is in denial.  He still owes me monies of $3,000.00  and his response was you only get $750.00.  A far cry from what I went thru to buy a horse from him and trusted his word.  He finally responded to one of the other owners about the their horse passing and said he never heard of heart issue happening to a Dale horse.  Well it did and the horse is gone.  I would look closely at your gene line and breeding program.  He is charging alot for these beautiful animals and needs to take better care in the breeding business.  This matter is not closed untill I get reimbursed $2,250.00 balance of my hard earned monies.
