Kentucky Fried Chicken KFC Kentucky Fried Chicken Danger: Bones in the Snakers Louisville, Kentucky

I visited the KFC at 14411 E. Colfax Ave in Aurora Colorado today and got several items for my lunch. Among them was a bar-b-que chicken snacker. After getting my order, I headed home to get some work done.

Before starting in on things I needed to do today, and which ultimately never got done, I sat down to consume the food I got from KFC. After polishing off the rest of my meal, I started eating the snacker sandwich. It was tough as nails, but I simply could not eat part of it. Opening the bread, I found inside the bun a two inch bone. My wife, after she saw the thing, believes it is a thigh bone from a chicken.

Immediately outraged, I called the store and was greeted with apologies and the offer of a free meal. I explained I wasn't interested in a free meal, but public safety. This was not a little bit of bone that somebody would have missed. It was a big honking bone of the sort that would easily clog the airway and result in somebody choking to death. I explained that was my concern. Not getting much from the store manager, I called the regional offices for KFC in Denver.

I went through the whole story again, and got little more than I had from the store manager. They put me in touch with their regional manager, and he was all apologetic but didn't seem terribly concerned. I asked "what if a child got that snacker with the bone in it? Or an elderly person? You'd have a fatality to cope with." I insisted that I be given the number for their corporate offices in Louisville. So far as I was concerned, the regional manager was blowing me off, and I wasn't interested in his lame excuses for failing to care about the public health of his customers.

Talking to the corporate offices in Louisville Kentucky was a similar waste of time and energy. The woman I spoke with repeatedly apologized and told me that the store in question is a franchise and I'd need to take my issue up with them. This is a tactic known as "Passing the buck!" I told her that the concern should be addressed at the corporate level since the physical store structure is festooned with KFC signs. They cannot so easily escape culpability by claiming it to be a local store issue! She said the regional manager should handle the problem. I told her that "This regional manager has no ability to ensure product safety in Florida or Oregon, or New York or Chicago. If there is hazardous food out there with your product logo on it, you need to address it on the corporate level and ensure product safety." Eventually, and with much argument, she told me the issue would be transmitted to their quality assurance team.

Not good enough! I have seen other reports about bones in snackers from KFC on Ripoff Reports. This is not an isolated incident. I guess KFC will ignore the problem until somebody dies from eating one of their bone laden snackers. I did not find appropriate level of concern at the store, nor the regional headquarters, nor the corporate offices. KFC could care less if you choke to death so long as they got that dollar for the snacker they killed you with.

I have taken the matter to the Tri-County Health Department for Aurora, and there is going to be an investigation. It is my intention to follow that up with the Colorado Department of Health and Environment consumer protection division. I also intend to warn everyone I meet, and post all over the internet, that you risk your life... no kidding here... you risk death... eating at KFC! If that bone had gotten down my throat, large as it was, I would not have been here to post this report.

Worst part is... they showed no evidence of caring about their customers.

By the way: I have photographs, the receipt, the actual bone, so the evidence is in my hands. It really is horrific that they can get away with this, or that the consumer must fight this hard to ensure safety from KFC.
