On March 18, 2006, a Kirby rep knocked on my door. I told the man up front that I didn't have a job and could not afford to buy anything from the company. This didn't seem to matter to him, he came in anyway. He said that they just wanted to show me their product. Before I knew it, there was another man coming into my house with their vacuum. At the time, my boyfriend was asleep on the sofa. I asked them could they please come into the kitchen, so that they would not wake him. I was totally ignored and these 2 men went into my living room and started talking to him. Because both my boyfriend and myself are extremely too nice, we ended up listening to the entire presentation. (NEVER AGAIN!) This went on for 3 hours. When it came time to FINALLY show us the prices, the man told us about this special they were having and how if he sold enough vacuums, he would win a free trip to Florida. The first price he showed was $1799.00. He told us that the regular price was $2500.00. We told him that we could not afford it and that maybe sometime in the future we might be interested. He then called the other rep on the phone to come back to our house. When the other rep got back to the house, he told us that he would give us a break on the down-payment ($300.00). He would give us $99.00 for our old vacuum cleaner & take off $200.00 from the $1799.00. We would only have to pay $25.00 down and have 24 monthly payments of $84.00. AGAIN, we told them no. Again, he had a better deal for us. This time, he told me that they would lower the price to $1200.00, $24.00 down-payment, & 24 monthly payments of 57.00. By this time, I was willing to do anything to get them to leave. I agreed (like a total fool). After drawing up all the paper work, The total cost was back up to over $1600.00. I agreed (like a total fool). About 2 hours after the purchase, I called the rep back and told him that I changed my mind. I asked him to come pick up the vacuum. He told me to please think about it and that if I didn't change my mind, he would be by the following day. I didn't change my mind, but I could not get him to come and pick the vacuum up until the following day (March 20). Even then, I feared that he would not come and get the vacuum. When he finally showed up, he still was trying to talk me into to keeping it. I told him No No No. Again, he came up with a better deal than before. The vacuum was now only $900.00. I told him to get out of my house, that I was sick of him disrespecting my intelligence. I got all of my paper work back and ripped it up. I wrote this because I hope that this will not happened to anyone else. PLEASE, DO NOT EVEN ANSWER THE DOOR IF YOU SEE SOMEONE SELLING A KIRBY VACUUM!!! RIP OFF!!!!

E-bay

According to Kirby, their vacuum cleaners will last a lifetime. I've learned in my lifetime, that it is better to place vague statements like 'lifetime' with a real number, any number.

For example, lets call a lifetime 40 years. Not very long for a life, but plenty long. Do you really think the Kirby will be working fine in 40 years? Do Kirby's from 40 years ago still work? Would you gladly pay for a 30 year old Kirby knowing it still has 10 years of solid work left in it?

No. A 30 year old kirby is nearly worthless on the resale market. In fact, even a 10 year old Kirby will not fetch much. And that is a Kirby with almost all of its life ahead of it!

Anyway buying a 2 year old Kirby off e-bay brings the price down to $300. And, if it really lasts a lifetime (40 years)...then do the math, $300 for 38 years, or $1700 for 40 years. which is better?

I am saying this mostly to anyone who is trying to justify their mistake in buying a Kirby.

Finally, on the subject of door to door salespeople. rarely in life will you have the chance to be abusive and get away with it! It's a real power trip, I'm telling you. I'll tell you what I mean, say you get a ticket and go into a traffic court. Cop says you are speeding, you say you weren't. Who wins? A cop. A cop wins everytime. he has no reason to lie, you are trying to just escape a ticket.

The reverse is true for door to door salespeople. they say you were mean. you say they were mean. who will be believed? you will. every time. Everyone knows they were trying to make a sale. it was your home. They had every reason to be abusive, and you none.

I take advantage of this rare opportunity. I let into my Kirby rep with every last bit of pent up anger I ever had with anyone. and they were outta there in less than 15 minutes.

Ah it was great. Very therapeutic. but I wasn't done, i wanted the kirby too, so I picked one up for $300 off e-bay. Not a bad vac, but maybe I still paid too much.

I have always brought eureka vacum cleaners, most can be brought under 200. I have a nice bissel steam vacum cleaner and shampooer that set me back 300. I use it for heavily stained carpet (pets) and it does a heck of a job. If someone has to sell something that hard, there must be a reason. I also don't care whether he gets a free trip out of it or not.
