KODAK'S "Use Less Ink" position in selling their HERO 4.2 Printers is an absolute "BOLD FACED LIE" and "FALSE ADVERTISING" to the consumer because it continues to sell this printer product that "DOES NOT DELIVER" the "PROMISED BENEFIT!"

Edited Document:  the only information edited in the following is my name removed and the insertion - PARALEGAL!

This issue is regarding the KODAK HERO 4.2 Printer

This chat conversation with KODAK support took place on January 31, 2013 9:23 AM and since that time I have purchased 2 more black ink cartridges that allowed me to print 12 pages of text only (no pictures) with one cartridge and 25 pages of text with the second cartridge and now the printer says I am out of ink again and to replace the black ink cartridge.  I just bought this printer in mid-December 2012.  It was stored until January 2013 and to date I have gone through 4 black ink cartridges and 3 colour.

BUYER BEWARE:  DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES PURCHASE KODAK PRODUCTS ESPECIALLY THEIR PRINTERS.  IF THEY CAN LIE TO YOU ON THIS ONE AND NOT STAND BEHIND THE PRODUCT THAT THEY SELL THEN THERE IS AN EXTREMELY HIGH LIKELIHOOD THEY WILL DO THE SAME ON OTHER KODAK PRODUCTS TOO.

HOPEFULLY FOR ALL CONSUMERS OUT THERE KODAK WILL BE FULLY BANKRUPT AND COMPLETELY OUT OF BUSINESS, FOREVER SO NO OTHER CONSUMER WILL PURCHASE A PIECE OF GARBAGE PRODUCT THAT KODAK TURNS A BLIND EYE TO FIXING THE ISSUE; ALLOWING THE CONSUMER TO RETURN THE PRODUCT AND BE REFUNDED IN FULL FOR THE PRICE OF THE PRINTER AND ALL THE CARTRIDGES PURCHASED TOO!!!!

Tarun Dusia: Welcome to Kodak, my name is Tarun Dusia.  Please wait while I review your question.

Tarun Dusia: If you have an  incident reference number from a previous contact or from a My Support on-line session, please provide that to me.

Tarun Dusia: PARALEGAL, I want to inform you that Kodak printers don't support refilled ink cartridges as it may damage the printhead of your printer.

PARALEGAL: This is my first time contacting Kodak.  I bought your printer recently because it appeared to be a good deal and I was switching from my brother and HP printers because Kodak promoted themselves as using less ink to print.  I have been able to refill all my other cartridges but after reading information online that Kodak does not really do this and then you have to buy other reset chips...I am curious to know if this is the truth because if it is I feel mislead

PARALEGAL: There is no information contained on the box which the printer was held that informed me of this otherwise there would have be NO WAY ON GOD'S GREEN EARTH THAT I WOULD HAVE EVER BOUGHT KODAK'S PRODUCT!!!!!!!!!!!

PARALEGAL: How convenient for Kodak to leave this information out and mislead consumers.  I have used more ink with you printer than I have with any other one I have used for going on 30 + years.

PARALEGAL: Are you not going to respond, or what?

Tarun Dusia: Please try to understand that the refilled ink cartridges may damage the printhead of your printer. We recommend our customers not to use refilled ink cartridges.

Tarun Dusia: It may also void your printer's warranty.

PARALEGAL: Refilled cartridges have never damaged any of my printers for all these years and I still have them.  I bought this one to go with my IMAC and Apple Tablet and other devices

PARALEGAL: Tarun, I want an answer as to why KODAK did not put this in big bold print on the box.  If they did do you honestly think they would get product sales....DEFINITELY NOT!!!!!

Tarun Dusia: I understand your concern. Kodak printer's doesn't support refilled ink cartridges.

PARALEGAL: My other printers do not have the wireless feature which is a key reason I bought this one and the price was right plus the fact they CLAIM TO USE LESS INK.  I HAVE GONE THROUGH 2 BLACK CARTRIDGES JUST TO PRINT 1 REAM OF PAPER (500 pages)

Tarun Dusia: Okay, may I know which printer model you own?

PARALEGAL: Tarun, you are not answering my question I have asked instead you are skirting the issue

Tarun Dusia: I understand your concern. Kodak printer's doesn't support refilled ink cartridges.

Tarun Dusia: I can tell you how you can maximize number of prints and improve your printer's performance. I'm sure that will help you with that.

PARALEGAL: I do quick prints unless I need to do otherwise

PARALEGAL: Tarun, I would still like my question answered as to why KODAK did not inform the consumer on the box they sell the printer in?????? Please answer the question.

PARALEGAL: I am a Paralegal by profession and very computer savvy as well

PARALEGAL: I own the Kodak Hero 4.2 all in one printer

PARALEGAL: Tarun, I would still like my question answered as to why KODAK did not inform the consumer on the box they sell the printer in? Please answer the question.

PARALEGAL: I am a Paralegal by profession and very computer savvy as well

Tarun Dusia: PARALEGAL, Kodak has never recommended refilled ink cartridges. Please click on below link to see how you can maximize number of prints and save ink. Please do not use refilled ink cartridges as it may void your printer's warranty.
http://support.en.kodak.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/32473/kw/maximize/selected/true

Tarun Dusia: Please go through the above link and I'm sure that it will help you.

PARALEGAL: Tarun, again, please answer the question I have asked you consistently.  If you are unable too then please get a supervisor to do so.

Tarun Dusia: Please allow me 2 more minutes for the same.

Tarun Dusia: Thank you for your patience.

PARALEGAL: And...

Tarun Dusia: PARALEGAL, as I already inform you that Kodak doesn't supports refilled ink cartridges.

Tarun Dusia: We have not mentioned it anywhere that Kodak printers support refilled ink cartridges.

Tarun Dusia: Please do not use refilled ink cartridges with your Kodak printer as it may damage the printhead or printer. It may also void its warranty.

PARALEGAL: Tarun, again what you are saying is not printed on the box and is "False Advertising" by KODAK stating their product uses less ink when in fact it does not.  If you Google on the Internet which I did today, you will see there are many other people faced with the same issue and extremely angry and upset that they too now feel mislead as they had no prior knowledge that "KODAK PRINTERS DO NOT ALLOW REFILLS!!!!!  I NEVER WOULD HAVE BOUGHT KODAK'S PRODUCT HAD I KNOWN....I Guess this issue will need to be reported to the CONSUMER PROTECTION AGENCIES TO PROTECT US THE CONSUMER FROM COMPANIES LIKE KODAK.

PARALEGAL: Again, where does it say on the KODAK box that Ink Cartridges are not refillable

PARALEGAL: Second, that it counts the pages printed so even if you do add it the print cartridge will not work?  I am asking a simple question and am requesting a direct answer to my question not an evasive one that I am receiving from you right now

Tarun Dusia: PARALEGAL, I understand that you are not satisfied with your printer. Please follow the above mentioned link. I'm sure that will help you. Your printer is one of the good printers in the market.

PARALEGAL: What is the contact information for KODAK's corporate customer complaints division so this can be addressed and so I can pass their response onto the Conusmer Protection Agency when I launch the complaint against Kodak today?

Tarun Dusia: Okay, please allow me 2 more minutes for the same.

Tarun Dusia: PARALEGAL, you can contact our voice helpline support at 1800 421 6699 (9am - midnight, EST)  to talk to a supervisor.

PARALEGAL: Tarun, there is a reason KODAK was headed for bankruptcy in the first place...people not buying their products like they used to years ago.  Now, it appears they mislead the consumer into thinking they have a great honest product when in fact they do not disclose key facts and important details about their product.

Tarun Dusia: For a reference to this chat, please keep this number 130131-001184.

Tarun Dusia: I'm sure your issue will be resolved soon.

PARALEGAL: I most definitely will as it will confirm that you also skirted the question being asked.  Thank you. End Chat

The Refilling of Cartridges Isn't The Main Problem

AUTHOR: 2582 - ()

POSTED: Friday, July 11, 2014

I'm not sure you can make this case. However, I am disgruntled at how much of a rip off I got from them over the need to replace both black & white AND color cartridges when the black & white ran low. The uphot of this whole thing is that Kodak did not save people money the way they promised. I specifically remember the television ads way back when they first made these printers. They said their ink would last longer. You could print many more pages than their competetors before running out of ink. They even hung long reams of connected pages from a skyscraper to show how much more printing you would get than Brand X gave you. Pretty dramatic. But not so. I found the cartridges ran out very quickly. And my model forced you to have both cartridges full to a certain degree, or it would not print. And trust me. Those cartridges were not empty before it started calling for more ink. It seems they were down about two thirds before they stopped printing. It was a very bad experience. I will support you that the desire to refill the cartridges would be high! Considering how they scammed people about their cartridges being so much better.

#2 Consumer Suggestion

They are right

No inkjet printer supports (or even allows) the use of refilled cartridges.  They all have lockout chips.  Printer companies sell cheap printers, and make their money on the ink.  Obviously they don't want you refilling cartridges.  Not to mention, most refill ink is of very poor quality and can easily damage the print head.  Printer companies spend a lot of time engineering the ink chemistry and the refill manufacturers don't usually do a very thorough job.

Of course, I don't really understand why you'd buy a printer without looking at what the ink will cost for the volume you expect to print.  Kodak has "cheap" cartridges, but they are actually quite expensive.  $50 for a set of XL cartridges, and the yield is about 770 pages, so about 6.5 cents per page.  A laser printer is about 10x cheaper for printing text.

If you are so knowledgeable you would know that no inkjet printer company or laser printer company support the use of refilled cartridges.  That's been common knowledge since the beginning days of personal computer printing when they did not support re-inked ribbons.  It should not have to be printed in bold letters on the box, that's ridiculous.

The reason is obvious.  If they are not supplying the cartridges, they have no control over quality or condition or anything else.  I have used refilled cartridges and have refilled a few with good luck.  However, it knew it was at my own risk and did not expect them to support their use.

You just made a fool of yourself with the support person.

What the heck does all that paralegal crap have to do with anything by the way?
