This is hard for me to write because in order for me to do so, I first had to admit that I was duped. My story is this...

January 26, 2001. I had just worked out a deal on a 2001 Ford Focus ZX3 with my salesman, Tom Higgins. I was eighteen years old and immensely excited about my new purchase. I did my homework and knew what I should pay for the car. The price was right, and so a deal was struck.

Tom proceeded to direct me to the financing department. This is where the nightmare took place. The Finance Officer's name was Kevin. I cannot recall his last name. This unscrupulous man took advantage of a "green" consumer by telling me I HAD to purchase an extended warranty, maintenance warranty, GAP insurance, and various other "extras." Of course, that is not true.

The next day, I realized what had happened and went back to Koons to fix this problem and hopefully get Kevin fired. However, they told me the deal was already made and thay they couldn't help me. They told me to QUOTE, "...bite the bullet." I ended up owing $21,000 for a FORD FOCUS!! My payments are $455 per month, for 60 months!

My advice to you is do not go to this dealership because you WILL be taken advantage of in the financing department. If anybody knows any recourse I can take, PLEASE let me know.

Well ill be upfront about this, I am a Fleet Salesman in Tustin, Ca. Now I have something to say to you and mostly to anyone going into a dealership.

1. If your not here to buy a car shop from the comfort of your own home please.

2. This is how i feed my family, i dont appreciate people who treat me as if i am always trying to take advantage of them.

3. I dont appreciate when you think that car sales is a non-profit organization. As a car salesman everytime i reduce the price of the car i take money away from my family.

4. I DO NOT force anyone to sign anything, in fact they can leave at any time. You know your budget more than i do, if you cant afford it please dont get it.

5. Everyone who has a trade-in thinking they should get blue book for it is sadly mistaken. Why you ask? Well, blue book is what YOU would expect to pay for it. We have to smog, license, and repair all your cars before we can legally sell them. This get pricy you can imagine. If you want us to pay blue book for your trade then we expect you to pay MSRP for our car.

To Curtis, hey bottom line is he got your the payment you wanted right. Whats the problem? In fact they asked you if that payment was ok and you said yes, and it really is the is the truth it was ok. He saved you money by gettin you financed for less so stop being such a jerk about it. The bottom line is you liked the monthly payment who cares if he puts alittle money in his pocket.... please refer to principle 3.

Federal Law allows you to cancel....

I am sure that Federal Law allows you to cancel a contract within 72 hours if the contract value exceeds something like $100.00. I am not sure of the exact dollar limit.

Curtis,

By now the deal has already been financed by a bank and you can cancel the warranty without being penalized. But, keep in mind that by canceling the warranty your payment will not change, the warranty company will just send a check to your bank, whoever the loan is through, and it will be applied to the principal balance of the loan.

Warranty cancellation question

When I bought my new vehicle the finance guy pushed hard for me to buy a warranty. He finally said, If I can give it to you for $5 a month will you take?" Mainly to shut him up I said yes, thinking 60 months times $5 = $300.00. Not a bad deal for a 100,000 mile warranty.

However when I got home with the contract I realized what he did. He sold me the warranty for $1450 and lowered my interest rate from 6.9 to 5.4 so that my payment only went up $5.

I read the warranty and realized I could cancel it and was about to until I read the back of the sales contract. It says they can void the deal if you fail to follow through with any part of the it.

I would like to cancel it but I'm afraid they could punish me by forcing a higher rate even than the 6.9,or just undo the deal and not renegotiate. My question: Does anyone have experience with what happens to your finance arrangements when you cancel the extrended warranty?

All Ford's pull the same crap!

I too purchased a 2001 Ford Focus. We dealt with Waldorf Ford and Dodge. We had the same thing happen to us. It was our first new car, they told us we had to get all these warranties, etc. But YOU will have alot of problems with your Focus, if you haven't already, when you go to take it in for repair, you'll find that even though your warranty states that Ford will cover your costs for a rent-a-car, they know what insurances are excepted and I garantee you that your insurance is not one of them. Bet they never made you go through the waranty crap until they found out what insurance company you have.

We also got stuck with high payments (Ford Credit), and a total cost of $22,500. What a deal, more like what a joke!! Oh, don't try selling or trading in your car, NO OTHER dealership will buy a Focus.

There is one good thing out of all of this, Ford will be recalling their Focus' entirely soon. You'll get all you've paid, a 0% financing on the next purchase, and alot of extras. The only downfall is that you have to purchase another Ford.

Nicholas, I The Great Thorn have to respond to your Rip Off Report. This one eats at my soul. Being that I am a car buyers Advocate I am going to show you how to Go DEEP if you want to bend this car dealer over. Remember that a thorn is no good unless it goes DEEP!

Most all the time F&I managers will try to tell you that if you do not buy the warranty the bank will most likly not do the deal. This is not true. What is true is that F&I managers will try to sell you anything to increase your monthly payment.

If the F&I manager sells you a warranty for say $2000 bucks, he or she will most likly get $500 for selling it to you. Dave did not tell you that you will not get all of what you spent on "so called extras" back. Some of the money that they took will stay in the dealers pocket.

Please remember that when a car dealer wants to hire a F&I manager, they only will hire the ones that have the ability to bend EACH AND EVERY car buyer over and get every penny. That is what they are TRAINED to do. Trust no one at any car dealer is my motto.


If I were you, I would print off a copy of your Rip Off Report and fax a copy to EVERY FAX number that I have posted for you. If car buyers want to protect themselfs, they must all stick together and File Rip Off Reports on car dealers that they feel are deceptive.

Here are the FAX numbers, so GET BUSY. On your fax cover sheet say "Free Closing tool for all Ford dealers". I say this will be a sure way to fry Koons Ford's morning oats.

Suggestion for Koon Ford ripoff from a Business Manager at another Ford Dealership

I am a Business Manager at a Ford Dealership in Northern Wisconsin. It really saddens me to hear this kind of report about another dealership because it now gives all Finance people a bad name.

Unfortunately, your dealing with Koons Ford was a
very unpleasant experience, however, there is a light at the end of the tunnel. If you dig out your paperwork that you signed and look at the contract for the extended warranty, maintenance
warranty and the gap insurance, you will find that
all of it may be cancelled at any time.

If Koons does not give you any satisfaction on the cancellation, contact the companies the warranties are through and tell them the situation and that you want to cancel. They will cancel the contracts and send the refunds to the institution where your car is financed. You can also refinance the whole thing through your own bank.
