ok.  First off, we received about three packages in the mail from CRA - Colorado River Adventures, with pictures of this neat, private campground near Julian CA.  All three packages contained a scratch off ticket that provided four $$$$ signs which meant that we qualify for $1000 in camping, $100 in gas, and a 7" Android tablet, along with a free weekend of camping in exchange for a 90 minute talk and tour of their facility and the other 9 "home camps" associated with your membership.

Membership sounds ok...$449 maintenance every year "to keep it clean and pay their workers" availability to go to almost 1000 different camp sites in the US, Canada and Mexico...for additional $150 x2 for sister company maintenance fees.  HOWEVER, sales folks weren't that pushy, some attitude when we told them there was no way we could come up with half down on the membership fee...Platinum $10,995 (comes with one week camping in a loft cabin early) or the Silver (no cabin)$8995.  Your options were to pay half down and 0% for 2.5 years OR around $1650 down and 72 months at 15.5% with no NPP.  Who has that kind of cash?  then the camping "gift" is for 20 nights...NO WEEKENDS (this includes Friday - Sunday night - you can only camp 5 days max between Monday and Thursday nights...WTH?)  the $100 gas is a thing thru Shell you have to first, within 30 days, register for and then you have 240 days to submit 4 separate receipts, must be within 60 days of each other from a Shell gas station and then you'll be reimbursed  for the gas if they deem it falls within the guidelines...the Android tablet...some off brand, but it will come in handy somewhere.

Add this to insult.  The guy next to us has his tour a few hours later...was quoted $13,995 for the Platinum and $10,995 for the Silver!   This is where the lying comes into play.  if they play folks like this...what else is hidden or being lied about?

After reading comments about their trailer rentals and mismanagement, I don't even want to see their other "home camps."  Will stick with KOA at least there are no surprises there.  If we were retired...had nothing better to spend out money on...maybe, but I think I like their sister companies better.

oh, and their photos are way out of date.  The stocked fishing pond...I wouldn't touch anything that comes out of that.  it has been diminished down to a large puddle that I could easily throw a rock across...and it's catch and release anyways.  the drought has hit that place hard...swimming pool was probably around 75-80 degrees...didn't bother with the hottub...way too many kiddos in it.

Colorado River Adventures

AUTHOR: US Patriot Veteran - ()

POSTED: Monday, November 23, 2015

I'm not going to rebutt any of the reports prior to 2015.  They are inaccurate at the least and written from frustration by the writer.

My wife & I were referred to this organization by out RV dealer, Giant RV.  We went to the presentation that has been mentioned in other complaint reports.  We were given a tour of the KQ Ranch facility, which is suffering from the drought in California.  We then were told about all of the other resort parks in their system, watched a video and decided to take a deal that we thought was acceptional.

We received the bonus gift of the 7" Android tablet, the gas reimbursement form of $200, not $100 as well as a multitude of books, literature and options to use affiliate resorts that are in their system.

Subsequent to our first encounter which we enjoyed, we visited the Ghost Mountain resort that is located near South Lake Tahoe.  It was great.  The people were exceptional, the facilities were 5 star, the property was beautifully maintained & the activities were excellent.  The "Ghost Town" is the former set for the series "The Virginian".  Everything was better than expected & so much better than the reports I've read on this website.

I'm curious if the complainers actually took advantage of all that was offered them?  They must have gone some place other than where we've been so far.  We've never had trouble getting the RV site we wanted, the two resorts we've been to so far were never over crowded.  The people & employees were extremely friendly as well as helpful.  This was our first adventure outing in our new/used motor home.  We were very awkward in getting things done but not to worry, the people saw our situation and helped us get settled in quickly.

We spent two weeks at this resort before returning home to the Victor Valley of Southern California, where we live.

Next, we went to KQ Ranch, where we signed up & spent two weeks on "The Ridge" overlooking the vast desert below.  The weather was extremely cold, windy & wet.  The first couple of days we stayed indoors with our two little terriers.  Once the weather cleared up, we visted Julian and Ramona to sight see.  That was great and just a very short drive from the resort.

There is fishing 3 miles away at Lake Cuyamaca.  I spent two days there but didn't catch any fish.  The lake is stocked with trout, bass, stergeon, crappie, blue gill & catfish.  Fishing was fun but the wind was cold.

We have nothing bad to say about this organization, its people, its facilities or their honesty.  Everything has been exactly as they represnted it & more.  We look forward to many more outings to their other properties as our time and situation permits.

If you're unhappy with Colorado River Adventures properties, programs & employees, then you're a very small minority of people who have been invited to join.  Their membership rolls boast over 6,000 satisfied customers who use their memberships all year round.  In addition, our membership includes our children & their families at no additional cost.  They will inherit our membership when we pass on.  The membership is valid to the 3rd generation, which is another perk to those who join CRA.

I'm posting this rebuttal to better explain the opportunities available for anyone interested in an RV/Camping membership that is excellent with options no offered in other programs.  I believe the complaints are inaccurate, formed from a very negative mindset and from people who want everything for free.

I am not associated with Colorado River Adventures in any professional way.  My wife & I are just very satisfied members.  We're part of the 6,000+ membership that is growing each year as are their properties & opportunities.
