Mr. Kreps is an extraordinarily gifted attorney.  However, you DO NOT want to work for him.

In the almost 6 years I worked for him, 9 office workers left this firm.  ALL were "fired".  He will tell you all of them had attitude problems.  He will tell you I left on my own.  However, when he says on the phone "you are fired", I took it as him firing me and so I left my home office.  There is a common denominator in all of this and that is Mr. Kreps himself.  He has a Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde personality.

One minute he is giving someone a hard time (see examples below) and the next he seems very apologetic and nice.  However, the nice part wouldn't last long as he would go back to giving someone a difficult time over anything and everything.  It was not unusual for a worker to be on the phone with him in tears (including myself).  We had conversations about his approach and the way he talks to people. It would be fine for a while and then boom, the not so nice personality would emerge.

When I had to have back surgery 3 years ago and needed 2 weeks off, he threatened to fire me even though I had given him 3 weeks' notice and my doctor said I couldn't hold off any longer; I needed the surgery as soon as possible.  I did have the surgery on a Friday and went back to work after just 1 week off at his request.  Since the pain wasn't too bad, I willingly went back early and have no regrets about my decision to go back earlier than planned.

Last April I was extremely ill and texted him to let him know I was going to the E.R.  He responded telling me I need to get my work done and go to the E.R at the end of the day.  I chose to go to the E.R., had 2 breathing treatments, massive doses of an antibiotic and massive doses of prednisone both through an IV.  I had pneumonia.  I took 2 days off.

When I asked for a week off in June or July, he said "so you leave Wednesday and come back Monday?".  I told him I wanted a whole week off and he did agree to it.  In prior years, all but 1 of my vacations I had to work while I was on vacation.  It wasn't the full day but had to put in 3 to 4 hours each day.  Who wants to work while in Las Vegas?

What did I do at the law firm?  In the beginning, I worked part-time with current clients.  The last 3 1/2 years I worked on the potential side of things full-time.  I enjoyed my work.  It was challenging and I really loved talking to people on the phone to help them.  After doing that for 1 year, I asked for a raise since I was doing a great job and had much more responsibility than I had before.  He said he would rather give me a monthly bonus than increase my hourly wage which I was fine with.  We came to an agreement about the structure of the bonus.  When he fired me April 19, 2016, I had already brought in a substantial amount of sales and I was due a bonus for the half of April I was there as well as the hours I worked Tuesday before I was fired.

Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde reared his ugly head and he has refused to pay me the $745 I am owed for the bonus and the few hours of work that last day.  He will tell you I only get a bonus if I work the entire month.  That isn't right since my bonus was based upon my daily work.  Since I was an outside contractor, I can't do anything about what he owes me.

Why am I posting this in such a public forum?  I could give you many more examples but I won't.  I don't argue the point that Mr. Kreps has an incredible legal mind.  He has definitely found his calling.  However, when there is no continuity in staff to support him, it seems like someone is always in training to learn how to do their job.  Mr. Kreps needs to do the right thing (a common phrase of his) and pay me for the work performed and the incredible job I did the first half of April; especially since I was heading for a record breaking month.

All resolved and resolved very well

As I stated in my initial report, Mr. Kreps is an amazing and talented attorney and achieves results for his clients that are unheard of.  The reason that I posted this was never about whether someone should hire him as their lawyer or not.  The results that he gets for his clients are unbelievable and it was always a pleasure to see how thankful people are at the work that he does.  It was also always very satisfying to see just how much he cares about his clients and the outcomes on the cases that he handles.

His law practice is not just a job for him but is something that he really takes seriously.  He is also extremely honest and hard-working.  If there is something that needs to be done in the office and there is not someone available to do it, then he will do it.  I have never seen anyone that keeps up with things like he does and is willing to work the kind of hours that he works in order to get things done.  He doesn’t do it for money - he does it because he loves people and he loves practicing law and cares deeply for his clients and the profession.

After I posted my initial report, he and I had the chance to talk.  Our talk was very cordial and he was very nice as I was.  During the conversation, I discovered that having nine staff members leave over a six year period is actually a very low turnover for a law firm of his size given the serious nature of the cases he handles and the number of cases.  He also reminded me that there is not now and never has been a time whenever work in the office was not being done due to staffing issues.  Everything always gets done even if he has to do it himself.

He and I will always disagree about how I came to leave working in his office and that is fine.  We have just agreed to disagree.  Looking back on it now and after talking to him, I am reminded that he has a very straightforward and sometimes blunt personality.  For the areas of law that he practices that is a great quality which makes him so effective.  Sometimes, however, it is difficult to turn that off when moving on to another situation such as in a situation with a member of his team.

He also works more than any other human being I have ever seen and does not take sick days.  When he had sinus surgery a few years ago, he had the surgery in the morning and was back working that afternoon and was back full speed the next morning.  Crazy as it seems, I think that is why he demands excellence and such a high level of performance from the people that work for him.  I don't think that he means harm to anyone.  Sometimes it just comes across that way.  As to me having to work on my vacations, anytime that was ever discussed or brought up he always made it my option and my choice and I chose to do that.

He and I both have very type A personalities and there were many times that we got along great together and sometimes that we butted heads.  I really enjoyed working so closely with him for so long on potential clients.  He and I were in constant communication and constantly dealing with the hundreds of potential clients that we speak to every month.  I understand why he wanted to structure a portion of my pay the way he did so that it fluctuated.  I was fine with that and it worked well.

It always amazed me how I could go over a fact pattern with him from a potential client and then he could talk to them for a few minutes on the phone and schedule a meeting or talk to them on the phone for a short time and they were ready to move forward to hire us because of the great legal and analytical skills that he has.  He also impressed me in that he would never guarantee anyone a result but he always guaranteed that he would do the very best job that he could and he would not stop until he knew that he had done all that he could do.

In the end, he did the right thing and everything is back to normal.  As I said before, I don't argue the point that Mr. Kreps has an incredible legal mind.  He has definitely found his calling.  Also, I want to take back the statement that I made that there is no continuity in staff to support him because that is not entirely true.  The people that he has working for him are very well-trained and he is 100 percent available all the time to them and he is very involved in each and every case that is handled in his office.  As I said, he did the right thing and everything is squared away with us and I am glad to post this update and set the record straight.

If you want the best lawyer in Alabama, you won’t go wrong with hiring Joseph Kreps and Kreps Law Firm, LLC.

Not a man of his word like he says he is!!!

POSTED: Sunday, June 12, 2016

Approximately 1 day after filing the original report, he contacted me through one of his employee's with several threats via text.  I responded I would deal only with Mr. Kreps.

Then about 10 days later, he called me and we had an almost 1 hour conversation.  He threatened me with many things including to sue me for slander.  However, it isn't slander when the information is true.  I have emails and text messages to back everything up.  He also refused to pay me the $745 I am owed.

After about 45 minutes, it became obvious we were going nowhere fast!  I offered a compromise for him to pay me $500 instead of $745.  Our agreement was he would pay me $250 and I would try to get the report removed or at least edited, or if nothing else, respond that there were "exagerations" even though there weren't any.  Simply put, I wanted to close this chapter of my life and continue to move forward once he paid me for work performed and performed well.  Once the rebuttal was completed, he would pay me the other $250 and call it paid in full.

He paid the original $250 and I offered him to write the addendum or rebuttal for my approval which he never did.  He said he was a "man of his word" yet he lied to me and never provided me the rebuttal or the remaining $250.  Although Mr. Kreps is an incredible attorney (as I have previously stated), I have seen yet another side of him that is very concerning.  He is NOT a man of his word, he does NOT care how he treats people who have been 100%+ loyal to him, and has an absolutely horrible approach when it comes to those working for him.  All he had to do was provide me with the verbiage, pay me the remaining $250 and be done with it.  He lied, plain and simple!!!
