Kurt Rupenthal DDS and Kathy Rupenthal Rupenthal Dentistry Bait-and-Switch of Dental Plan Carmel Indiana

After seeing great reviews from Rupenthal Dentistry, I was excited to a have dentist close to home. I called Rupenthal Dentistry and spoke to Kathy Rupenthal on November 7, 2017. Kathy Rupenthal, explained that they had an in-house dental plan that was
$394.00 per family member. The RD Plan included fluoride, x-ray, gum evaluation, and 2 visits per year. Kathy went on to schedule my appointment for December 5, 2017. I also received several reminders via text and email.

On November 29, 2017, I received the following email from Kathy Rupenthal.

This is Kathy from Dr. Rupenthal's office touching base regarding your upcoming dental appointment with our amazing team! Your appointment is scheduled for Tuesday, December 5th at 10AM. 

I spoke to Dr. about  using our in-house benefit plan for this appointment. He said that would violate our contract, although he would love to accommodate you.  We do offer a 10% courtesy discount for paid in full with cash or check.

The RD Benefit plan fee for 2018 is $421. You may purchase that at your first appointment in 2018.

I called and talked with Kathy Rupenthal about the email and asked if they were still going to extend the same RD Plan that was offered when I originally scheduled the appointment. Kathy, said no. She explained that I would have to pay for the fluoride, x-ray, gum evaluation, and cleaning but at a 10% discount if paid in full. Even with a possible 10% discount, this would cost much more than the dental plan I was originally offered. Kathy, then went on to say, that she could sell me the RD Plan on December 5, 2017, however the second cleaning that is included in the RD Plan, would not be valid in 2018. (Forcing me to pay for the second cleaning a la carte in 2018) I asked why the price of the RD Plan changed from $394.00 to $421.00? I also asked if I could start the RD Plan in 2018… Instead of answering my questions, she became very frustrated and rude, and stated “this is the only way that it can be done!” 35 minutes later, I received a call on my work phone from Kathy Rupenthal, stating how rude it was of me to question their practice and that they do not want me or my family as patients.

At this point, I have decided that my family and I will continue to make the 20 minute drive to Westfield, IN and see our current dentist that we have had a good experience with. It’s unfortunate, we live just down the street off Hazel Dale Pkwy, in Carmel, IN and frequent many of the business next door Rupenthal Dentistry.
