I have sent in 2 cancellation forms to discontiunue my son's membership. They have yet to cancel anything and because of their unethical means of doing business, my bank account has over-draft charges in excess of $170. Plus they are trying to tell me that I owe them $39.95 on top of everything.

Their customer service is anything but that, once you have waited on the phone for 20 minutes to talk to someone, they do not do anything to assist you. They just tell you to do what you have already done and to pay the outstanding balance on your account. I would not recommend this membership to anyone...they are a rip-off and have some of the worst customer service I have ever experienced. Gym enthusiasts BEWARE!!!

HOW TO CANCEL

AUTHOR: Lafemployee - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, December 19, 2008

I am an employee of LA Fitness and even though it is sometimes difficult to end your membership it is entirely possible if you follow these instructions.

1) print out or pick up a cancellation letter from your local LA Fitness.

2) MAIL IT CERTIFIED!!!!! ((( This is VERY important ))) if you dont mail it certified it will most likely be "lost in the mail." a certified letter only cost about two dollars and will make all the difference.

a. Once your letter has been mailed, your membership will be cancelled 20 days from your post marked date. YOU WILL NO LONGER BE BILLED MONTHLY!!!!

b. If your billing date falls within those 20 days you will be billed for one more month.

c. Since you paid "first and last" you will have 30 days to use your gym after you cancel.

d.if your credit card on file does not work and If you are carrying any balance, you will be called daily by gym staff. They get paid $5.00 commison if they can obtain new credit card info from you.

e. LA FITNESS DOES NOT SEND YOUR ACCOUNT TO COLLECTIONS. (WE DO NOT HAVE YOUR SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER.)

*** Some people have beat the system by going into their local club and changing their phone number and address on file. There will be no way of contacting these people. ***

*** I have heard from sales staff, that in order to keep their bottom line during these hard economic times LA Fitness has risen the sales quotas making it harder for the sales associates to get paid. Many sales people at my gym are looking for new jobs. But in the mean time they are promising potential members anything to sign them up. Once the member has discovered that they do not have the level of membership that they were promised the sales person will have been paid and quit. This is just something that i have observed. I am not claiming that this is already happening but it seems logical to me. JUST BE CAREFUL AND READ EVERYTHING YOU SIGN!!!!! (whether it's from LA Fitness or not.)
