Ladies Workout Express Difficulty cancelling membership even after contract period is up-- switched to monthly and did not know it until bank statement arrived and now they want another months payment because you have to give 30 days n otice even though thety renewed membership on a month to month basis withiut my knowledge-- before membership was up I called the club snd they told me I didn't need to do anything t Garwood New Jersey

Membership was up at the in feb 2008-- in december of 2007 I called to ask when the last payment would be from my checking acct--the girl told me feb would be the last and that I didn't need to do anything to cancel. Payment was taken out in march 2008. When I called ladies workout thry told me that at the end of the contract period you automatically get switched over to a month to month membership--it's in the fine print. I called ABC financial and they told me that I need to send a letter to them requesting them to cancel the membership and it would be cancelled 30 days from the postmark on the letter. So now we have 2 extra months that I am paying for and I have not been using the facility in months. This seems to be a great way to bleed clients for extra money. Why should I have to pay for another month when the contract endedn in feb 2008?

I myself was a member of Ladies Workout Express in Garwood and I had a completely different experience getting out of my contract. I had learned I was no longer able to go because of an injury and knew my 3yr. contract was approaching. I referred to my copy of the agreement and contacted the billing services with ample time to cancel. The agreement is very clear and lists what will happen if you don't cancel the membership after the expiration date. Unless you checked off Do not Auto_renew, it states it will continue on a month to month membership plan. Read the agreement next time.
