My 2004 Range Rover had only 37147 miles on it. The car broke down on a county road late at night while on a road trip with my three small kids in the car. We bought this car for safety during trips and instead we were left stranded in NC, scared, in the dark with a broken down car on an unknown road. There were no taxi, rental cars or tow trucks anywhere. EVERYTHING was closed. Our cell phone would not work since we were out of range.

We stayed on the road several hours hoping someone would come by. No one did, finally we decided to try to start it, and we were hardly able to drive there was smoke coming out of the car. We found a dealership in Cary NC and left the car there. They called us the next day and said the differential broke, and the Catalyst assembly also had to be changed. They charged me a total of $3693.99 for the related repairs, which was outrageous. There were lots of extra rip-off charges in there like 'freight" to get the parts ($150.) Checking the service engine light ($95)
I tried to explain to the customer service that the car was recalled for the differential and that the catalyst should have been covered under the "Fed. Emissions" warranty, but they refuse to reimburse me. Our trip was ruined and we were stuck paying for a rental car for a week while they made the repairs. This car is dangerous and unsafe. Do not think you can go on a trip in a Landrover, because you could end up stranded and alone. WHAT A RIP-OFF!!!

Attn: Mike Nelson.

what the hell is wrong with you? You are disclosing Client Confidentiality. I don't care how the story goes with the lady and her range rover. You don't disclose Client Confidentiality. Now I know I wont be taking my new land rover into your shoppe for repairs. If you were really that good of a service manager you would have explained this to the lady with her range rover.

Ok I took my car in to their shop the other day. just for some Simple repairs. first of all they charged me 35 dollars to diagnose each problem. OK that's a bit high. usually its only one diagnosis fee if you are going to a reputable repair shoppe. and if you have the car fixed they waive the diagnosis fee. but Leith Auto did not. for something that cost less than 100 dollars to fix they wanted to charge me over 300.00 Dollars to fix. their prices are way over priced on car repairs. 300.00 dollars to fix something that would cost 30.00 in parts and Labor of 8 tenths of an hour to fix. at an average rate of 55.00 dollars per hour in labor. that's a rip off. It's called Price Gouging! Do Not take your vehicle to Leith Auto unless you want to pay a ridiculously High Price.

As we all know, there are 2 sides to every story. The year and mileage of her vehicle is correct. Her title states that her vehicle was under warranty. That is incorrect. Her vehicle was out of warranty by 6 months. I'm not sure about the beginning of her story where she is painting a very sad story of being stranded. I truly feel bad for her if that is the case. We do not wish anything remotely close to that upon anyone. She also said "We found a dealership in Cary NC and left the car there." She didn't mention though that she had been to us one time before only 3 months before this breakdown (for an unrelated incident). She knew exactly where we were located.

We did diagnose her car right away the next morning and phoned her with the results. Indeed, her front differentail did fail. She states that this is a recalled repair. That is 100% correct. Only, the recall didn't come out for several months after she had her repair done. Land Rover dealers were not even aware at her time of breakdown this was going to be a recall. She also did not mention that she used an extended warranty to cover the differential. Her extended warranty paid for all the parts and all labor except for 2.2 hours. They would not pay full labor time which included over an hour and half with the adjuster they sent to look at her vehicle. Besides the 2.2 hours she had to pay, there was only her deductible of $50.00 for the differential repair. She could have used this receipt at the Land Rover dealership who had to still perform her recall to get reimbursed the extra money she spent. Instead, the dealer who was doing her recall stated she was trying to collect from Land Rover North America for the money her extended warranty paid for. That is considered fraudulent, and I believe they wouldn't reimburse her due to this.

The second issue she had was that her check engine light was on. We found a fault for the oxygen sensor on bank one. Upon further inspection we found a weld that was broken on the down pipe which caused the fault to occur and the light to come on. Federal Emissions warranty is on the catalytic converter only. Her catalytic converter was still good, we had to replace the downpipe. We did check with Land Rover North America before refusing the repair, and they were the ones who said it was not covered. Unfortunately, the new part comes as the downpipe with the catalytic converter. There was no way for us to order it seperately. I tried to explain that to her several times, but I obviously must not have explained it correctly. The $150 "freight" charge was to overnight the catalytic converter. There would have been no shipping charge if they didn't want it overnight. She opted to have it overnighted to get it done right away. She didn't even pay the $3,693.99 she claims. Her extended warranty paid $1,514.02. Although, still not inexpensive, she paid $2,179.97.

She did contact Land Rover North America regarding the catalytic converter. They ended up telling her the exact same thing. This was not a covered item due to a weld being broken and not a fault with the catalytic converter itself. She also claims they were on a trip when this happened. Her home of residence when they brought the vehicle in was approximately 20 minutes from our dealership. I hope that didn't ruin any trip if so.

I hope this makes it clear that we did not rip this client off. We try to do everything we can to get extended warranties to pay for as much as they can in the interest of the client.
