     After speaking with them on several occasions, preparing them for what our requirements were, they told my wife and I they would be able to help us out with their special financing programs, and that they had in house financing.  I informed them that my credit was far from perfect due to identity theft, however I make almost $100k/yr at a new job (Which they told me over the phone that an offer letter was sufficient - And as it turned out, it wasn't and I needed to wait until I had a paystub - Fine, I waited and gave it to them).  We told them we needed 0 down, and they told us no problem!  We picked out our vehicle, they told us no problem.  I spoke with the Finance manager Phillip Oden (Who is actually the "Sales" Manager) and he told us that using my income and my wife's credit, we would be good.


     We specifically told them we wanted zero down payments, and that we wanted them to match up a program and let us know our options PRIOR to running our credit through any other lenders. [continued below]....

.....  They said No Problem!  As it turned out, they had no special financing "Programs", and they ran our credit without our consent.  After talking with them about it, they said we signed a paper giving them consent, completely disregarding the agreement we had.  They covered their rears with that paper, and I'll give that to them, but they shouldn't have made an agreement with us, then turn around and do the opposite.  Lesson learned!


     Don't go to this place, the used car salesman mentality runs rampant, and they will tell you anything.  End of the story is we were qualified for $17k, but with fees and everything, they wanted $22k, meaning over $5k out of pocket.  That's nowhere near the zero down they promised.  To top it off, the vehicle was not worth that much on KBB.com (I should have known they were shady when there wasn't a sticker price).  They are out to rip you off!  Not help you!  Don't be fooled!  They are just like regular car dealerships that run your credit through many lenders.  They DO NOT have special programs or "In-House" financing.  If you can't get approved at another car dealership, don't let me try to tell you have a chance there instead.  They Lie!  Bottom line...


     I'm not upset we didn't get a vehicle through them, I'm upset because they offered special "Programs" that fit "Any Need".  This is a sales gimmick at its finest. Phillip lied about his title, and when i spoke with him on the phone, I asked to speak to his manager, and he informed me in a loud voice "I am the manager!"  He could have sent me to the General Manager, Keith Geohagan (Whose name I got off their website), but instead of trying to make it right, he yelled at me, told me I was a liar and he didn't remember any of the previous conversation we had at the dealership.


     This dealership is about an hour away from where we live, so coming out to them with their "Special Programs" and "In House Financing" was very appealing so that we could do some business with them and not waste each other’s time.  3 days of running our credit through many lenders and they still couldn't help us out without a down payment of over $5k.

Just recently I experienced the same treatment..They wanted a co-signer, I got one, then a letter stating status of payment on my truck, I got one, then another excuse, and basically told me I wasted my time getting through their hoops.  Meanwhile, I told them that if they can't do it, let me go to the other dealer that said they could get it done. Now I have lost both..UGH

 I am sorry about your experience at Larry Jay, but my experience was exactly the opposite.  I got a brand new 2012 Mitsubishi Galant, with zero down, fully financed with a low percentage rate and I also dealt with Phil.  I don't know what your issues were there and why you couldn't get the 100% financing, but we did and had a wonderful experience and the Mitsubishi product is stellar.  The employees at this dealership are friendly, knowledgeable and professional so I was kind of stunned to read this report.  I don't make close to $100,000.00 a year and I qualified for zero down and 100% financing (I think we financed $22,500) and have recommended this dealership to numerous individuals not only for car sales, but for maintenance and repairs of their non Mitsubishi vehicles.  You see, Mitsubishi makes such a great product that they don't come back in for repairs.  Look at the parts truck at this dealership - a Mitsubishi with close to 350,000 miles on it and it's still a daily driver. 

This dealership also offers a Mitsubishi 10 year, 100,000 mile warranty, with free oil changes and tire rotations for life.  Everyone jumps on the bandwagon for the Hyundai warranty - Mitsubishi has the same warranty and a much better product.  My car has only been back to the dealership for oil changes - and they are free.  It is a fabulous car that came from a fabulous dealership with a really great bunch of people that work there so your comments were rather offensive to me. 

I am sorry you had a bad experience, maybe your credit just sucks so badly that the best they could do was a $17,000.00 loan.  That seems to be your own problem and not a reason to blast the dealership. I am sure they did everything they could to accommodate your situation and sorry it didn't work out for you but everyone I have sent to Larry Jay goes back because they treat their customers right.

You need $1500-$2000 down.  I work with people with bad credit every day.  No matter how legit your reason for not paying your bills banks want money down when you have bad credit. Take a step back and wait for your first paycheck.

Sorry my fellow American of your loss, that can not be easy for anybody.

I am truly sorry for your loss. What you have been going through obviously is not an easy task. You explained all this to the dealership and they treated you the way they treated you.  Unfortunately in the auto industry lies are easier to tell the customer then the truth.


I have been a automotive fraud investigator for several years now. And one of the last dealerships that I would ever go to is a Mitsubishi dealer.  How far are you away from a Ford dealership or a Chevrolet dealership in your town?

I am willing to help you get a car. I will work with a Ford dealership in your city or I will work with a Chevrolet dealership in your city to help you get a car.  If you contact the editor and let him know that you posted this report I will do whatever I can once I get your contact information to help you get a car I will work with the dealership And try to find a way to get you into a car.

Don't judge a book by the cover...

Okay, first of all, I make ALMOST 100k/yr, not over...  Secondly, I didn't think I needed to share my credit history with you, but ok...  For those of you wondering how I can have bad credit, yet make decent money, here we go... 


Several years ago, after getting out of the military (Over a decade of service)  My wife was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer.  I had to quit my job to stay home and take care of her and our 3 kids.  It was not an option.  After all hope in California was lost, we had to pack up and move to NC for her to get treatments at Duke.  Sold most of everything we had to pay for the move, since all of our savings went to her treatment.  As if that wasn't bad enough, my identity was stolen.  My information was lost by the Department of Veterans Affairs and my credit file, totally screwed at 2 of the 3 agencies.  After trying everything I could to fight off her cancer, fix my credit (Which is hard when you have no proof other than a simple letter from the VA), I decided to go to college from home while taking care of my wife and lived off of the student loans and my GI Bill.


So not only was my wife fighting cancer, I wasn't able to work, student loans were piling up, my GI Bill was running out, and all of this fraudulent credit was being reported.  My wife passed away a few years ago, all savings were gone, and BAM, another letter from the VA.  This one telling me my identity was stolen and this time they knew who did it but my information was sold.  All three credit reports were affected this time.  At least this time the VA has offered credit restoration assistance, but I've yet to receive anything from them, and when I call I only get voicemails and no returned calls. 


Things start to get back on track, finished college and got an $80k/yr job.  Add the social security survivor’s benefits for my kids, and that's $95k/yr.  I've only been at this place for a couple of months.  Most places want you to be on the same job for over a year.  The guys at Larry J, told me, that's no problem with them!  Yeah, here's a shocker, they lied! 


My credit is shot from identity theft, Not once, but twice.  I'm on a new job, lost a wife to cancer yet still have many medical bills, just got remarried but at least MY bills are paid.  The problem isn't MY bills, or me wasting money, the problem is the identity theft. 


So to answer your question on why someone who makes almost 100k a year can't get a decent loan, THAT'S WHY!  Maybe you shouldn't judge...  Just sayin'...

Please help me understand if you make $100,000 How is that you have no money down

Please help me understand you're telling me and everybody else that you make over hundred thousand dollars a year. And you want to buy a cheap car and you have no money down.  My question is what do people do with their money especially somebody that makes $100,000 a year.  


I make $55,000 a year And I drive $45,000 car with no problem. Please help all of us understand what it is that you do with your money.  If you make that kind of money and you have no money down and I was a car dealer, I wouldn't finance you A empty BEER CAN.


You must be a complete fool with your money. Why don't you spend some time and post on this website what it is that you do with your money. You need a reality check what it comes to money management. If I made Over a  hundred thousand dollars year, I would be driving to $70,000 car with no problem and I certainly wouldn't be going to the Kia dealer Or any kind a dealership that sells cheap cars.


Please take some time and educate us as to how you part with your money.
