Last Chance Critter Rescue based in Antoich, California and run by Susie Rae Ray should be shut down for fraud and cybercrime.

Her claim that the state "lost" her 501(c)3 paperwork sounds like "the dog ate my homework" but even if true, Last Chance is not only not registered as a charity with the CA Attorney General, but also with the CA Franchise Tax Board and the IRS. I searched both websites under both "Last Chance" and "Cherished" (their FB page actually has a URL ending with "Cherished Rescues") and there is no such organization in CA with tax exempt status registered with either. Did the FTB and IRS lose her paperwork as well?

As you know, soliciting donations while falsely claiming tax exempt status is fraud -- and it subjects the donors to potential audits by the FTB and IRS if they try to claim their donations as deductions.

As for the Antioch shelter, if Last Chance is a legit rescue organization and not rescuing animals from the city shelter, then where exactly are they rescuing animals from? All the animal rescues I know are constantly looking to place animals in foster or permanent homes. All I see on the Last Chance Facebook page is animals from OTHER rescues. Where are their animals available for adoption? I've seen several people ask that question on their Facebook page and they never answer, and the questions get deleted. No one is donating to Last Chance so Susie can sit behind her computer and cross-post from other rescue groups.
