We decided to use Legal Helpers, PC to file for bankruptcy. This McDonald's style law firm totally could care less about it's customers. We had set an appointment for today to see the lawyer and to give him our final paperwork, we wanted him to check it over carefully to make sure everything was good to go. I had to take a day off of work to do this! (I have a new job and am only allowed a few days off of work for this type of thing!) so it wasn't easy to take that day off and we like to make the best use of our time.
Well the MORON we set up the appointment with said was absolutely *had* to bring our petition in person down to the office, so we scheduled the appointment to see the attorney. The appointment was set back on May 11th with their "answering" service (based in Chicago?) at 888-303-0431.
We went to our appointment (today) and they refused to let us speak to an attorney! We told them we had a 2pm appointment and the little desk gal said that it was an appointment for "dropping off papers". That is NOT what we asked for! WHY would anyone make an appointment to DROP OFF PAPERS?!?! And then she said we could have mailed them in! That's totally opposite of what we were originally told!
I called to complain to the 888# and asked for a supervisor down there, (They originally forwarded me right away to Milwaukee without letting me speak to one down at the answering service). When forwarded up to Milwaukee I spoke to Alex who was apologetic and suggested I call back to that 888# to speak to a manager. I called again to the 888-303-0431 and asked for a manager. I got a person named "Shay" who was a total jerk and didn't seem to care they screwed up the scheduling. He asked what he could "do" for me and I asked for a written apology letter. He said that's "not feasable"... how is writing an apology to someone NOT FEASABLE?! Did he NEED A PEN? Then he later claimed to be the "senior partner" at the firm, an attempt to put some importance behind his snotty a*s attitude. Did not impress me at all.
I called back to Milwaukee, since obviously these slimy swine in Chicago were too busy polishing their Mercedes to give .02 of time to a paying CUSTOMER. I asked for Alex again (Who was conveniently unavailable). I spoke to one of the other attorneys down there who kept asking WHY I wanted an apology letter - which is stupid - they obviously screwed up, didn't they WANT to make it right? apparently not! He said he'd "look into it".... right...
So, I wasted one of my very FEW days off for a bunch of asshat attorneys that can't get their own scheduling straight and can't be bothered to actually SEE their clients. Don't waste your time with this lame bunch, i'd have better luck setting up scheduling at a local Taco Bell.

Legal Helpers or Legal Cripplers?
AUTHOR: PublicViewer - (United States of America)

I really believe that some of the replies here are from people connected to Legal Helpers. Why? I called them myself for free legal help, and well they don't really give you free legal help.. they give you a tidbit of information but go on to say you'll need to see an attorney. They won't answer even the most basic of questions when it comes to the attorney's office they refer you to.. not even a ball park price either. Do you really think I'm going to waste my time with no information given to me? Nope! It was in my opinion that this is more or less a scam to wear the consumer down so they're so exhausted in dealing with red tape - so to speak - that you won't go anywhere else. I don't think so! One call was all I needed to know that I didn't want anything at all to do with this company.
I would encourage all people to look to the telephone books and talk to many different law firms and attorneys. Narrow your choices down to three to five prospective firms where you feel the most comfortable with in all areas including pricing; from over the telephone first. You can call any law firm and speak with an attorney prior to a consultation; whether free or not. I would avoid any law firm that does not honor this. Also word of mouth from respected and valued acquaintances and friends goes along way, too. (Avoid big advertisements as they're massively expensive; into the thousands of dollars, and of course this is passed on into your fees. When viewing basic contact information in the telephone book also make sure they do not have a boxed ad that is any larger than one-half inch in height, and even then that might be more pricey than I realize, too. Many firms have more than one listing and ad, but many also do not.)
Also.. you can file your own bankruptcy, too. It's not hard but rather tedious. The one major thing to prepare for in filing yourself is to make no errors; not even in grammar, a physical address, name, or creditor, and on and on, etc., because a judge can and will (from my research) dismiss your claim based on one simple little error, and then you have to wait two years to refile.
When filing yourself buy a book on anyone of the Bankruptcy Chapters from Nolo.com. In my research I have found this to be the most credible resource out there. Please do some research yourself first though, because it's never wise to take someone's direction without knowing more yourself; especially from a stranger.

Rachel532 attention whoring?

Rachel532, why did you come here? to purposely be a d**k? Seems like you succeeded at just that. Either that or you work for Legal Helpers and you're attempting to defend them with your lame attempt at putting other people down. Do you get off on that? First of all numb nutz you do not know our circumstances do you?
My husband's mother died of cancer just a few short years ago and did not have any health insurance at the time. She also did not have a will and we automatically got the house since my husband was already living there. Do you know what happens when you have cancer and don't have insurance? Hospitals, nursing homes and any health providers COME AFTER YOUR a*s. We didn't have much choice as just the basic treatments (to keep her comfortable) costed in the tens of thousands of dollars (She never had any treatments to try to get rid of the cancer because it was too late by the time she found out).
Anyways, being that it's really none of your business anyways I thought Id share that with you, but since you seem to be a heartless p***k you probably won't care anyways. We had purposely planned to stop paying the mortgage and give the bank the house; we did not want it in the first place. The mortgage was originally taken out by his mother for an emergency roof repair because of storm damage plus the house needed way more repairs than just the roof. We inherited debt, but a d**k like you wouldn't care would you?
We are still fighting this stupid law firm, we have all of our paperwork in and have done OUR Part but they are so inept they can't even manage to return a phone call. It is our job to let people know about these lowlifes.
I don't need to work for taco bell you moron since I happen to be a web designer earning more than your a*s does Im sure of that (Upwards of 45k) and my husband works for the same company. Does that mean we can pay off huge debts incurred by cancer treatments that were inherited to us? No. We pay our rent on time, we pay our bills on time but we need to get rid of all of that debt we inherited.
So go smoke some more crack and look for attention elsewhere you retard.

Did you ever think of banking with another bank if you were going to be short on your mortgage? This is not rocket science! Did you get rid of all your debt?? How ungrateful and rude! I'm sure taco bell will help you eliminate your debt.. hell they can reduce your waste line too you idiot!

Ex Employee Doesn't know what he is talking about
AUTHOR: Anon - (United States of America)
SUBMITTED: Friday, January 15, 2010
the ex employee seems to think that all bk are the same well after seeing a lot I'll tell you they are not.
everybody is different and so every bk is different.
If you want to be treated like cattle and be processed then go to legal helpers but then what if you have the odd but likely situation and a credit trys to dismiss your case? then what? you get dismissed b/c legal helpers have kids as attorneys who aren not experienced
go to someone with more experienced
legal helpers is wright about one thing Experience Counts however legal helpers does not have experienced attorneys only kids
bk is way more than what ex employee says it is
why would you even listen to ex employ , he is not even an attorney
i would not recommend any person to go to legal helpers
ask this: why is it that other attorneys do not have like over 50 complaints on this site and others? there is an obvious reason

How Bankruptcy Law Firms Work
AUTHOR: EanonymousG - (United States of America)
SUBMITTED: Thursday, November 26, 2009
First thing I want the consumer to understand is that although the conventional law firms works by constantly having appointments between the attorney and the client, the bankruptcy process does not really need face-to-face appointments. We mainly just need your financial documents so we can draft the petition. The main time they are needed are in the initial consultation to run the means test and to make the final determination as to what chapter a client is eligible for, and a signing appointment (if required by state law). I personally understand why a client would like to see an attorney multiple times, but honestly, it is just a waste of time. Unless it is a required appointment, it is considered a general appointment. Clients fail to realize that how you got to your financial situation is irrelevant, what matters is what is on your credit report and whether we can remedy the situation or not.

Legal Helpers just keeps getting worst as we go!
AUTHOR: Cheri - (U.S.A.)

On top of everything else that we had to go thru with this horrible lawyer's office they also give CRAP advice! We had asked them if our bank accounts would be in danger being at the same bank as our mortage was at. They told us no we'd be safe. This was a outright LIE by the attorneys. The bank took every cent we have and started charging us overdraft fees and all sorts of other fees AFTER THEY ROBBED US of all of our money. When I called Legal Helpers to confront them on their horrible advice they REFUSED TO TALK TO ME OR CALL ME BACK. THEY REFUSED TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THEIR OWN HORRIBLE ADVICE. Like I said this place is the WORST OF THE WORST, a bunch of basement scum lawyers who don't deserve a cent!

Legal Helpers of Wisconsin came throught for us!

We hired Legal Helpers in Wisconsin to file a Chapter 13 bankruptcy for us and are very satisfied with the service provided. We filed in 2005 and the bankruptcy was discharged in 2008. We paid them a total fee of $800.00 and it was money well spent. After reading all of these negative comments, I guess we were one of the lucky ones. Our attorney bent over backward to accomodate our needs. I was suprised to read of other consumers' problems.
