My husband and I were thinking about refinancing. We looked into lending tree and started an application. We were contacted immediately, things seemed to be going very well, and then they asked for $400 to lock in the rate. That sent up a red flag.

I told them I needed to speak with my husband before I could commit to that fee. They told me that if he didn't agree and I called back by the end of the day, they would not charge me the fee.

I called back, said my husband wasn't interested, and I thought that was that. However, later that week, one of my credit card statements showed the $400 charge from them.

After about a dozen emails and phone calls, I finally got one of their employees to say it would be refunded. I have yet to see it.

We never signed any of their agreements or paperwork they emailed to us, nor did we ever set up an appraisal or anything. Basically, they took $400 for nothing.

I believe your talking about LendingTree Loans. However, what you fail to realize is that when you use lendingtree loans, your only option for us to be a liasion between you and your potential lender. This is read in a very detailed disclosure when you are matched up with LendingTree Loans, so your statement in regards to LendingTree stealing your money has no merit and your possibly opening yourself up to legal action.

LendingTree Loans just acts as a broker between you and the actual lender your working with. If you have any problems regarding "lock in" fees, you should take it up with the actual lender and if you continue to have problems contact LendingTree Loans, immediately for resolution.
