Last month I bought a used car from a very trusted friend of mine. She has a lot of knowledge about cars, having been a service writer in previous years. So when she told me that she had a complete safety check done on the car before the sale was final, I trusted her hands down.
After buying the car I decided to use my income tax return on new tires and new wheels. The car was also in need of an alignment, but nothing more.
I took the car to Les Schwab and got what I feel was a fair price for the tires and wheels. I spent exactly what I expected to spend.
The problem, however, started when I went to pick up my car. I had to call them to find out if they were done, got told my car was ready. But when I got there, they asked me who I spoke to, because my car was NOT ready.
The tires and wheels had been installed, but the alignment had not been done yet. I offered to come back in the morning, as it was closing time, but they insisted on having one of the mechanics double up on jobs. So I waited about a half an hour. Is that all the time it takes for an alignment??
Anyhow, when the mechanic came into the waiting room to give me my keys, I got told, by the way, we found a leak on one of your boot pads, which apparently indicates my power steering fluid is leaking.
I was confused, because before I got the car, my friend had some work done on the car. One of which had to do with replacing a cv joint, or something to that affect. But I wondered, if my friend's mechanic had just been in that area, why didn't he notice the leak??
So, I decided to get an estimate for the work they claimed needed to be done, and made an appointment to come in. After all, I didn't want to get into an accident because my power steering suddenly stopped working, like the Schwab mechanic subtly suggested.
The estimate was for a remanufactured rack and pinion steering gear and behind the engine installation. Approx. 800.00
I spoke to my friend that night, and she called her mechanic that did the safety check and various work on the car. She talked me into going back to her mechanic for a second look at no charge.
I did, and I'm glad. Because as it turns out, my car has NOTHING wrong with it!!!!
Until this happened, I always thought Les Schwab could be trusted. But now, I will never go back to them.
All they saw was some female with a little money to spend and thought they could scare me into spending more.
I'll be taking my car to my friend's mechanic from now on.

Stupid Male

AUTHOR: lamalinche - (USA)

POSTED: Sunday, August 13, 2017

Not knowing about cars, sadly, is a gendered thing is this country because ignorant, entitled d*kwads like yourself treat women like idiots when it comes to cars. We are not brought up in a society where it is acceptable or encouraged for a woman to be into cars. I tried to take shop in high school and was told no and registered for home ec. However, a year and a half ago I couldn't even find my spark plugs and now I can build an engine. Why? Because another woman cared enough to take time to explain everything and not treat me like an idiot when I didn't understand at first. And I'm better than my male counterparts because I'm a woman, which means I'm smarter than most men and used to having to work harder for everything. Because of ignorant f*s like you. Take your Ignorant Female comments and go fu* yourself with them. It's not our fault that you feel and are inadequate. And to be clear, you wouldn't be attacking someone that you don't know and don't have any context for online if you didn't feel like a total inadequate d****ebag. Which, by your comments, it seems clear is true.

Les Schwab is discriminating based on sex

AUTHOR: CHRISTI - (United States of America)

POSTED: Saturday, December 05, 2009

I'm seeing a very disturbing pattern happen here. The majority of complaints about Schwab claiming certain work needed to be done that didn't actually, seems to predominantly be written by women. I know Les would never have allowed his company to prey on women because they assumed they didn't know any better. Certainly, this appears to be a company that no one can trust. The fact that so many of these vehicles were taken to other shops and told it was either a minor problem or nothing at all is incredibly pathetic. What? You can't make money the honest way so you look for an easy mark?

leak

AUTHOR: Madman - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, April 30, 2009

how did your friends machinic check for the leak did he take bellows boot off or just look on the outside. when power steering rack leaks you don't know till you take off boot clamps/strapps to inspect, some times if its been leaking a long time the boot well satuarate and fluid will leak from it. you can also tell if you have a leak somewhere by looking at the resevoir due to fluid level being low.

oh in the future if your friends machinic does replace your steering rack make sure he installs a fliter between the pump and your new on so the metal/other particles that caused you old one to bad doesn't cause the new to wear out as fast.

If he doesn't want to do a fliter I rec:putting on a new pump and hoses.

Don't just go and have the sytem flush out because that won't do you any good either. you'll still have some metal/other contanminates in the system.

good luck
