LG Appliances may look nice, but they have defects in design, manufacturing, quality assurance and product warranty.  Following constructing our new home, I moved a 1992 Kenmore W/D pair that were still working to a basement laundry area and purchased brand spanking new LG W/D units for the upstairs laundry.  Right away we had vibration-induced noise from the washer unit when it was in spin cycle.  The appliance installer worked on it for hours in an attempt to level it to eliminate the vibration.  Although he reduced it, he could not eliminate the noise.  He couldn't understand it because our utility room floor is porcelein tile on durarock CBUs on 3/4"T&Gs on 14" TGIs spaced 12" on center with no span greater than 12 feet.  There should be ZERO vibration.  We were moving in the following day, so I told the guy to not worry about it - "we'll just close the door".  However, at night when all else is quiet, you can easily hear the washer high frequency 'tapping' 2 rooms away!

Jump forward 2.5 years from installation and now the dryer is making a thud, thud, thud noise - seemingly with each revolution.  I checked it out and it made the exact same noise even when empty.  I called LG product support and was told that the unit was out of warranty (1 year on the entire device).  I told him I spent over $2,000 on the W/D combo and they wouldn't even come out to see if the problem is due to a defect or not?  The LG customer service person told me there was absolutely nothing he could do for me as the unit was out of warranty.

Thank God I saw an ad on the web for Sears Home Services - they set up an appointment and arrived on time.  Within a couple of minutes the tech told me that the dryer drum weld seam was separating right where the drum rollers engage the drum while it spins.  He told me he had seen this before, showed me with a flashlight and that it would cost exactly $387 plus tax to replace the drum.  That's 40% of the original invoice on the gas dryer!  Well, what choice did I have?  He told me that I ought to complain to LG prior to fixing it - 'this is a manufacturing defect and they know all about it'.

So, I called LG Customer Service again.  They absolutely refused to take ownership of this problem.  I gave up and had Sears order the drum, rollers and new belt - just in case they were rough/worn due to spinning over the metal hole.  Within 3 days, the drum and parts arrived and the following day a different Sears technician showed up right on time to install it.

As soon as he had the old drum out of the unit the Sears tech looked at me and told me that "this isn't right - this shouldn't ever happen - drums are supposed to last for the life of the appliance.'  After he got it all back together and he tested it satisfactorily, the Sears tech told me that he would be screaming at LG if he were me.  So, after he left I called LG again - this time asking for a supervisor.  The supervisor told me that I shouldn't have had the unit fixed because now there was nothing he could do for me - WHAT?!  I was apoplectic - I informed him of my other calls and he said that was 'too bad - and that he only had data showing that I had called only once before'.  Well, that must make me a liar, I guess.  I tried logic on him to no avail: 'what does the other call data say that I said?'  It was exactly what I had told them about the drum splitting open at the seam.  Then why didn't your service person tell me that you would replace it?  No real answer.  Okay - now that I had it fixed, I still have the old dryer drum - why not come pick it up and inspect it?  No can do - too late.  Huh?!  I have my receipts for Sears Home Service: why not let me send them to you along with the drum and you folks can determine if this is something you should reimburse me for?  Nope - too late.

I will NEVER purchase ANY LG product EVER AGAIN!  Crappy machines, crappy design, Crappily built and the worst customer service I have ever had bar none!
