I have an LG DVD recorder, ~1 year old, model DR787T. Starting in ~ September of 2008, the recordings would intermittantly stop mid-recording (this was not related to the amount of time left to record).

I called LG on 10/30/08 and I was told this was due to copyrighted commercials and that LG was currently working on an upgrade disc to fix the problem. They told me I could expect the disc within one month. They also informed me that in the meantime I would be able to successfully record on discs DVD-RW CPRM or DVD-RAM CPRM (I use DVD-RW). I informed them I would not be buying new discs- that I would wait for the upgrade disc.

I did not receive the disc, so I called again on 12/14/08. The person who answered to phone said they were busy, and could they take my name and phone number and they would call me later that day or the next, which I gave them my info.

They did not call me back, so I called again on 12/29/08. I sat on hold for 50 minutes, and then was told that LG was NOT making or sending me an update disc, and that the only solution was for me to record on the above mentioned discs. I told LG this was not an acceptable solution for me and that I want to return the DVD recorder. I was told this was not possible. I also informed LG that I have another DVD recorder (Panasonic) that is 1-2 years OLDER that this LG unit, and it does not have this problem. By phone, via live customer rep, I left a written complaint and was told I would hear back from LG within ~ 5 business days.

Once again, they failed to call, so I called AGAIN on 1/14/09. I am promised a call back again.

I bought this DVD recorder with the intent of using the recording discs specified in the owner's manual. LG promised to fix the problem, then didn't, and won't do anything to right the situation. If the unit cannot work using the discs specified, I want to return it. Their customer service is pathetic, not only because THEY WON'T RIGHT THE SITUATION, but because they WON'T CALL BACK.
