Purchased an LG Optimus with Cornings Gorilla Glass two weeks ago. Dropped it ONE TIME and the supposedly "more durable" screen shattered.

LG refuses to do anything other than charge me to repair it.

Corning reffers me back to the manufacturer of the phone.

Since I paid $50.00 more for this phone over a comparable model without Gorilla Glass there is an implied warranty there and both companies refuse to honor it.

Additionally, all of the ways LG and Corning offer for you to contact them DO NOT allow a person to document the contact. Something I'm going to need to produce if I challenge this through the credit card I paid for it with.

Which - unless one of them decides they need to stand behind the product - is my only course of Action.

Reality check? Really?

Apparently you are not old enough to know anything about the durability of Corning Glass in general and haven't bothered to read the advertisments for Gorilla Glass specifically. This is copied from their website...

"Consumers are demanding more from their mobile phones. They want devices that are thinner, lighter, and aesthetically pleasing – but also durable enough to resist the abuses that come with mobility. And they want scratch resistance and advanced touch capability that puts the world at their fingertips. Visually stunning, incredibly tough Gorilla Glass enables today’s sleekest smartphone designs, while providing exceptional damage resistance to the scratches and bumps of everyday use. "

Show me one person who has NOT dropped their phone. It should certainly be considered an "everyday use" event.

This from an email I received from them...

"We are sorry to hear that you've had a problem with your device. While Corning® Gorilla® Glass is better able to survive the real-world events that most commonly cause glass to scratch, chip or break, if subject to enough damage, Gorilla Glass, like all glass, can break."

I hardly think a drop of maybe three feet should constitute "enough damage" particularly since a second phone purchased at the same time has been dropped several times and not a scratch on it - thank you very much.

And then there is my personal experience with what Corning can do with simple glass. I have a set of their Corelle dishware - bought it over 20 years ago, no make that 30 years ago. On occaision I have thrown a piece or two and it didn't even get scratched let alone break. About 10 years into owning this set a serving platter did break - since Corning advertised it as unbreakable they replaced the platter at no charge.

YOUR post suggests a person who is paid to upsell extra services such as insurance that shouldn't be needed when a supposedly upgraded item is purchased.

First..just because you paid XX amount above a different model without gorilla glass DOESNT mean you have a implied warrenty. Second, and most importantly, you are neglecting the words here. Gorilla GLASS!!!! Its is still GLASS, and a very thin piece at that. Its more durable then standard glass but it is still GLASS!! It doesnt matter what the distance your phone fell, it is still just glass. You normally only see posts such as this from people who declined to get the insurance and the manufacturer wishes them to pay for it. So that being said and looks to be the case, either get a new phone and be careful with it or replace this ones screen.

The reason WHY they will not just give you a new phone is really quite simple. THEY DIDNT BREAK IT!!!! YOU DID!!! Had you used the device as perscribed by the manufacturer and the screen failed they would have replaced it. BUT YOU DROPPED IT!!! YOU DID IT NOT THEM!!! Why should they be held accountable because you are clumsy?? Thats just what a child does when they break their new toy...they blame ANYONE else so someone will feel pity on them and maybe give them a new toy. Well grow up, the real world doesnt work that way. YOU broke your phone, YOU have to replace it. The sooner you learn to grow up and stop blaming your issues on others, the sooner you will be happy.
