I went on a website and entered my email address requesting car insurance quotes. Liberty Mutual is the only company that responded. They quoted me MUCH less than other companies had quoted me around the same time. I called the sales rep, Patricia Bott, and questioned the quote. She assured me that EVERYTHING had been looked over and I would pay only $92 a month for car insurance.

I took a small loan to pay the premium and started the policy with Liberty. I never recieved a bil the first month. I recieved a bill the second month that said I owed $87. I called my sales rep again and asked what happened. She said my policy had been revieved and that I only owed $87 every month from here on out. I was so excited! I had previously had Allsate, who charged me $160 a month, so this seemed too good to be true!

And To Good to Be True, it was...

I recieved a bill in Decemeber from them for $156. I called again and asked what had happened, this time I was told that my account was payed up and that was a billing error. I didn't owe anything for Decemeber! I was told at this time that my policy had been re-written and that my next bill would be correct. I recieved my next bill for $156 again. I called agian and was told that I lied on my application and that my policy had to be rewritten and the amount had gone up, from $87 a month to $160! Well, by now, I was LIVID. I called and spoke to another lady, lost my temper when she couldn't answer any of my questions and hung up on her.

I called again and demanded to speak to a manager. I left a message since he was not available. He called me a week later and said that I HAD NOT lied on my application, that the error was on the part of my sales rep, Patricia Bott. So, for Liberty's error, my monthly insurance payment nearly DOUBLED and there is nothing that they would do about it...

Oh, but they did offer me a gift certificate to Applebees', which I politely told them to shove up their a$$es.

This whole ordeal lasted 3 months until I found other coverage. The employees at Liberty were not able to answer my quiestions when I called them, and if they did answer them, they answered them wrong or lied. Thye knew that they were in the wrong, but tried to blame ME for it. They avoided returning my calls in a timely manner.

This is A HORRIBLE and DECIETFUL company to do business with. I highly recomend that anyone that gives them busniess seriously rethink that decision, it might end up costing you...

#3 UPDATE EX-employee responds

Liberty Mutual is a crappy company..

AUTHOR: Exlibertyemployee - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, February 17, 2009

As an ex-employee of Liberty Mutual, I can assure you that the only thing that Liberty Mutual is interested in is the mighty dollar. They treat their employees like crap and nepotism is rampart within the company. So, it comes as no surprised that their clients are also treated like crap. When I had an argument with my manager about putting clients first, I was told that I should be looking out for the best interest of the company, afterall, it was Liberty Mutual who was paying my salary. Liberty Mutual's slogan should be, "our policy? Not our responsibility!"

So far I've had better service

AUTHOR: William - (U.S.A.)

I also searched online for auto insurance, and Liberty was one of two companies that responded. They offered me much lower than what I was currently paying. The online contact required me to do a check by phone for the deposit, but since I don't do that ever, I called the local agent for Liberty here. All my information was already in his computer and he came out to my house to collect the check for the downpayment (I could have paid cash had I needed to).

Since that time, I did receive my first bill for 10% of the balance, and I can pay more to lower the balance further. My current payment is around $140, but if I do pay more, I can, in effect, lower my next 9 monthly payments to where I want - for example if I pay $200 now, I will only be paying around $130 per month. My previous company had just raised my rates from $160/month to $195/month as our min. liability was recently increased. I could conceivably have payments down as low as $100 per month based on this payment.

Needless to say, I am quite happy with them so far.

#1 Consumer Suggestion

How to deal with Liberty Mutual.

AUTHOR: Scott - (U.S.A.)

Ill explain after what I went though with this company years ago. Im sure there was no mistake on your part. Company has employees that excell in fraud.

1) Make police report in your state that broker is giving false information to the unsurance company, or company itself is submitting false info.

2) Find your local court and see if you can speak to a DA, or assistant DA. Let them know what is transpiring, and most of the time they will tell you what you need todo in your state and also most will go after the brokers. State loves imposing high fines for bad insurance companies so chances are most DA's will get on the Police dpeartments case tomake sre all paperwork is done correctly.

3)File small claims yourself or hire attorney to do it for you to collect false fees imposed after 2) is completed. Sorry, this will take time, but end result hopefully you wont lose what you spent and gained if done right.

Now for my story of Liberty Mutual. I had used this insurance company hen I was a kid by recomondation by friend who saved a lot. I was assigned risk (I noticed each year I was suppose to be off assigned risk with clean record, insurance companys always somehow managed each year after to say it will be another year I will be off) Oh sorry, back to story. I met with this broker who took my information, then did some calculating and came up with a $560 a year policy, instead of the $1400 everyone else said it would cost me. I was estatic.

Bill came and it was higher then what I was quoted, but then I also noticed it had 2 cars on the application. I called the company up and discovered all the information was wrong. Changed it and week lator I get new revision and my bill almost $1400 for the year again? I call the broker who yells at me I should have called him first. He gave them that info with someone elses address in order to give me this great deal. He then told me it was my tough luck and hung up.

What he didnt know is I recorded our phone conversation. Unlike other states, NY you can do this as long as your part of the conversation, and dont even have to tell the other. States that dont allow this, do it to protect the corporations, not the consumers, because its the consumers who need this more. Anyway, end result is I do a police report, talk to the DA quite a few times. Broker gets fired. I get my money back and go to another insurance company.
