This is the 2nd year of me going to Liberty Tax Services. I had no complaints and can say I was generally pleased with them the first year. That is why I returned the second year.

My husband and I filed a simple married filing jointly with two children and only 1 w-2 return. We even went and prefiled before he recieved his w-2.

They called us several times to make sure we were coming back with the w-2 and filing with them in between the time of the prefile and us actually filing.

It was a basic prefile and I was satisfied with the customer support besides the fact that they were not dressed like tax preparers should appear. Nor did they converse with their coemployees as tax preparers should.

When we returned to turn in our w-2 the tax preparer was basically falling asleep in her chair as she spoke with us! I had to remind her to change the employee Identification number because she entered a false one which seemed unprofessional in the prefiling.

Also several times I had to ask her if she made the checks out to direct deposit because she kept forgetting. I also had to check and make sure she entered the social security numbers in correctly because she was "sleepy."

So basically I felt as if I walked her through the entire process of filing my return. Once I returned home I felt as if  there was no reason that I should have to pay 353.00 to them when I did all the work myself. Not to mention how unskilled and unprofessional the establishment was.

I called the office and they had the franchise owner call me the next day. He offered to do my return for free next year in return for such poor service. But I stated to him that I would not be returning next year because I pretty much did it on my own this year so I will be filing out my own return next year.

Instead i ask him just to refund my processing fees this year. To this he stated that he would have to call me back tomorrow about it and find out if he was able to do that. Days went by without him returning my call so I called him back to only have him not answer. I called several more times leaving voice mails before realising this basically was a lost cause.

Several weeks after recieving my federal taxes direct deposited I noticed I never recieved my state taxes. I called the state hotline and they kept telling me to wait a few more days. called them back to get another wait another week.

Finally today when I called the state hotline they noticed that my state taxes were deposited into the bank of Liberty Tax Services....not mine. So I called Liberty. They said it was because it cost me 49.95 to process my checks. To which 39.95 was taken out of my federal and the other 10.00 off my state (on top of the processing fees they charged me). But I told Tara that I specifically ask the lady if it cost to get direct deposit and she said no.

Well Tara copped an attitude and said well she is wrong it does cost honey. And it just so happened that my state return was for only 10.00. She screamed and yelled at me and ask if i wanted a refund why didn't I say something about it before now. That she would of did it this way or that a way. I stated well honey I am not you.

I checked on their website and they have a 100% satisfaction guarantee. So I called corpriate heaquarters. But they basically just took a report and said there was nothing they could do to honor the guarantee because they have privatly owned fraanchises and it was up to them to decied to honor the guarantee or not.

So to sum it up they took me for the 353.00 plus 49.95 they never told me about and kept my state return. And were very uninformed, rude, treated me like I am stupid, and refused to honor their so called "100% money back guarantee."

What a total rip off. I am going to try to contact my local telivision station so that they are not able to continue ripping more people off. Geez all I wanted them to do was to stand by their word!

 The owner had to think about a refund for poor service? Sounds like this location was really in the dumpster. This was a pure desperation move on his part to stall your request. These places do such little business that giving even a single refund can mean bankruptcy for them. Your best move was to alert others of the low service standards that the corporate office tolerates. Small claims court will definitely awaken this franchise owner. You were basically robbed. Do you realize that you could have gone to a real CPA and had your taxes done for HALF what these guys charged you? Do it !!!
