Before signing up I was not told about how the company tried desperately to tack on any fee they could. I complained and they said that was their policy. I was in an accident and unable to go in to work out. I asked to temporarily suspend my account and was told I could pay an $8.00 associates fee per month but would still have to pay a re-sign up fee to continue working out. The Sign up fees range from $100.00 to $400.00 and the monthly rates are $60.00. Not to mention all the "extras". I was promised all this stuff like a personal trainer and never got one.

I had not worked out there for almost a year thinking I would be back on my feet sooner than later. I felt it was cold and callous for them to not see my point of view. I feel lied to and now they are charging me for two months to quit the gym. I kept getting moved from one manager to another "important" manager made to wait just to hear a broken record of what I had just heard. The corporate office was of no help either.

I was under the impression that the customer mattered in todays economy. Companies cry they don"t make any money but they treat people like crap. I was definately decieved from day one I was promised the moon and given nothing but an empty bank account. If you can help that would be great.

Fine Print

AUTHOR: Mickey - (United States of America)

POSTED: Saturday, December 31, 2011

Yes - read the fine print.   They will charge you an additional month when you cancel after the 5th of the current month.

This is legal - read the fine print - but it isn't ethical.   They can make any excuse they wish concerning the "need" to charge this additional month after cancellation, but in today's world of electronic billing there is no reason (other than greed) why a cancellation can't be immediate.

My experience was moving away and not having another location near my new residence.  I had to mail (certified no less!) my cancellation letter and since it arrived after the 5th, I was charged for another month at a facility that I had no physical access to.    I will never do business with them again.  I will actively recommend to my friends, family, and colleagues that they go elsewhere.

Read Your Paperwork

AUTHOR: Tony Tompkins - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, October 30, 2008

Although I have sympathy for the situation in question it must be noted that the cancellation policies, as well as "hold option" policies are all spelled out in very clear language on the documents that an individual is REQUIRED to sign and then is given a copy of. The problem that we run into most often is individuals who don't pay attention when signing up, don't ever read the terms agreement that they sign and then assume they know our cancellation policies and complain when those assumptions turn out false.
Our rates are perfectly reasonable given our suite of services ( the $60 a month listed by the previous poster is the same price to go the YMCA around these parts, and we are HARDLY the equivalent of a Y- no offense Y), our enrollment fees are a necessary business expense if we are to maintain our policy of not requiring annual contracts and our cancellation policies are more than fair.
Nobody stole from anyone. Nobody lied to anyone and the "charged for two months to quit" in question would equal $16. Hardly a huge financial hardship.

Go look at the LA Fitness reports, look at how Life Time was ranked top amongst gym chains by both Consumer Reports and Men's Health and you'll get the real picture of Life Time Fitness.

Unfortunate Circumstance, Satisfactory Resolution...

AUTHOR: Juxtapose - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, October 09, 2008

Hello

I am a Member Advisor for one of the Dallas, TX Life Time clubs. I came across this article while researching our competitors in my area. I am very knowledgeable in my company's policies in regards to making changes to your Life Time account.

I completely understand Dustin's concern and we have many members who happen to go through unfortunate accidents such as his. Considering Dustin's situation in this matter, it is certainly strange to hear that he was never offered the option to put his membership on a freeze status. By doing so, his membership will end immediately and will not be charged dues for a standard period of 90 days (unless otherwise noted by a medical professional). Upon expiration of the freeze period, he will not be charged any type of enrollment fee and his membership will start back up at the rate he was being charged previously.

To qualify for a membership freeze, Dustin must provide us with a note from a medical professional stating the amount of time that Dustin will not be able to utilize the club. That is it. As I mentioned before, the standard timeframe is 90 days. If the freeze happens to extend past the 90 days, a $10 fee per month will be assessed thereafter.

Judging by what Dustin has mentioned in his complaint, I don't believe that he was able to offer a Doctors note or some equivalent. This also leads me to believe that some facts have been chosen to be left out of the article, therefore making our business practices seem unfair.

Let me assure all current Life Time members and potential members that our policies regarding cancellations are far better than what is out there right now. Do the research! Consumer Reports just did an article about health clubs and rates us as one of the top health clubs to join all around! It's no wonder why our current members love us and why we are gaining new members everyday!
