Litton Loan Servicing is a horrible company. We have been given the run-around in our attempts to get our Hurricane Ike insurance money back from them. Nationwide insurance company was great after Hurricane Ike. They sent an adjuster out quickly, they were very helpful and wrote a check on the spot for $31,000 for a new roof, fence, and other minor repairs for damage from leaks and all the spoiled food. Unfortunately, the check was written to Litton Loan Servicing as well. As if the hurricane wasn't enough, now the real nightmare begins.

The loan company said that we had to endorse the check and send it to them and then they would give us the money back after we sent them bids from contractors. It was a lot of work to even get contractors to even come out and do estimates after the storm because everyone was so busy, but we were diligent and got it all done and sent in the bids but it was useless! We have wasted so much time with this company. And we've lost money due to this whole mess because when we miss work to meet a contractor, we don't get paid. We live in Clear Lake and had to evacuate and the companies we work for docked our pay for missing work even though they didn't have electricity either so I don't know how anyone could work!

We have had to send the bids again and again. Litton kept saying they didn't receive them. This company is very difficult to work with. My husband would call and get put on hold, then transferred, then hold again, then transferred, then disconnected and have to start all over. It has been ridiculous. We work and can't spend all of this time at work dealing with personal issues and we can't afford to take off any more days.

We finally had to go with a roofing company that claimed to specialize in dealing with this type of situation. They are probably storm chasers, they are not a local company, they seemed a little sleazy and pushy but we were desperate and sick of dealing with Litton. They probably charged too much for the roof but they took over and did manage to get some money from Litton. And we do have a new roof. Hopefully it's a good one.

But now we are back to having to deal with Litton to try to get the rest of the money back in order to do the remaining repairs. Every time my husband calls he has to start over. They don't have record of the contractor's estimate. They put him on hold. They transfer the call. He gets disconnected. Over and over. This was starting to cause my husband and I to fight because I'm beginning to think he's an idiot that he can't get this take care of! So then I tried to take over. Litton wouldn't talk to me because they said that I was not authorized to discuss the loan. I don't know why since I signed the mortgage papers along with my husband. Litton bought the loan from the original mortgage company so I guess something got lost in the transfer so my husband sent a letter of authorization for me.

I waited a week and called again. They said they have no record of it. We sent it again. Same story next time. So on the 3rd attempt I tried to get them to verify that we had the correct fax number, maybe it was going to the wrong department. The Litton representative was rude and evasive. She said I could "fax it to any fax number I wanted"... What kind of answer is that? I asked her several different ways to get a number out of her and then she said "Who are you yelling at?" I wasn't yelling but I was getting irritated.

I absolutely could not get her to give me a fax number so I gave up and asked her if she could tell me that the number we were using was correct. Again she said "Ma'am I already told you that you could use whatever fax number you want." When I pressed her to answer whether or not this was the correct number she said that I wasn't authorized to discuss the loan. I said I wasn't trying to discuss the loan, I'm trying to discuss how to get our insurance money back in order to make repairs on our house! She hung up on me!

What can I do to get my money back from them? I don't even care anymore if I get all of it. I can deal with stains on the ceiling from leaks and warped floor but l really need to get a fence! We had to take our dogs to my mother's house since we have no fence. Then the they got in a fight, which they had never done before and had to get stitches which cost $1200! The vet said she's had more dog fights than ever and thinks it's due to the stress of evacuating and being displaced! It just never ends!

It's so frustrating! You think you're being responsible by having good insurance but that's not enough in this predatory world anymore.

A friend told me that the insurance companies are regulated but the mortgage companies are not. Is there anything we can do to regulate these mortgage companies? I've heard that in California they have due to this same problem after natural disasters. They found out that the mortgage companies are earning interest on homeowners insurance money by holding onto it this way so now if they don't pay it back in a timely manner they have to pay you interest! Wow.

What can we do to regulate these mortgage companies? Where should I go for help with this matter?
