We've had shih tzu's as family pets for over 30 years. Obviously we are well versed with the breed. However, for some unknown reason we did not meet Lone Star's standards. They wouldn't tell us why so we could correct whatever it was they viewed as a problem. Additionally, they were trying to get us to adopt a different dog than what we asked for (our first pick was still available). The dog they wanted us to have was more expensive. The dog we wanted was older, hence less expensive.

It wasn't a matter of money; just the principle of the matter that they were trying to force another dog on us. When we refused, they cancelled our application. The woman who conducted our home visit refused to pronounce the name of the breed correctly. We were more than willing to adopt, but with all the hoops they force people to jump through, we will meet up with a breeder. With 170 something dogs to home, Lone Star is ridiculously picky. We left a similar review on a popular social media site, but Lone Star deleted it; they only want 4 and 5 star ratings.

I'm who I said I am

It's not my fault you have a problem with my life partner posting on OUR behalf on FB. Maybe that's the REAL problem! There was nothing wrong with our vet records. There was nothing wrong with the size of our yard or condition of our home. This is discrimination plain and simple. So if it's not because we wouldn't accept the more expensive dog, it's because the person conducting the home visit disapproves of our lifestyle. Do we want you to look into the application? NO! We've had enough of your silly nonsense and prefer to warn innocent people of your conduct! Every time you post a rebuttal you make yourselves look worse!

So who are you, really?

If you'd like us to look into the application, let me know your real name.  Is it "Shelly Anderson," "Ann Krieger," "Laura Hanson?"  Which?

almost forgot

In the reject email you said you turn down more applicants than what you approve. So which is it? you don't reject "willy nilly"? Or you "turn down more applicants than what you approve"? Pick carefully because it's quite evident either answer is a lie. Still willing to bet had we accepted the dog you wanted us to have, we would have been approved.

lies, lies and more lies

We did supply vet records. And if you're concerned about dogs getting exercise, maybe the person was concerned about how the dogs would get exercise, and the condition of the backyard, maybe she should have put some glasses on and then she would have seen how spaceious the yard was and that it is indeed adequately fenced in. If there was no hope of our application going through, maybe that person shouldn't have offered us a different dog?  Additionally, there are 2 parks nearby, TWO! something the home visit person didn't bother to ask about. These are shih tzu! They don't need a football field for a backyard. The whole purpose of a home visit is to assess a situation, and correct where needed. If you really thought we were too far outside the city for you, maybe you should have stopped the process at the application point rather than waste our time? And maybe your organization shouldn't reach all the way down to Galveston? Just a thought before you piss off more potential adoptions....

We are advocates of the dogs!!

AUTHOR: Lone Star Shih Tzu and Lhasa Apso Rescue - (USA)

We don't have a denied applicant named Shelly, but, this does sound suspiciously similar to an application under a different name, who was denied due to the results of our home visit with her. We are advocates for our dogs only and if our process deems someone will not be a good fit for one of our dogs, particularly when one is in a city far from our dogs, we decline to adopt to them. It does no good for us to save them from a neglectful situation just to possibly put them back into another one.

No, we did not offer her a younger, more expensive dog.  Once an applicant is denied, it's done.

Our typical reasons for denying applications include lack of proper care of their current pets as evidenced by vet records, inadequate fencing and/or ability to safely exercise the dog, etc.  We do not deny applicants frivously.

She's also posted a negative review on our facebook page under the name Ann Krieger.  It's interesting that she will not post with her real name.
