Please read this for your own good! We set up Long's to pick up and move our Olhausen pool table to our new vacation home. I had read a few bad reviews but when we called the person we spoke with was professional and reassuring of their quality. We set up the pool table on Friday at 10AM. The people we bought it from were selling their home on Monday. I took the day off work and my family and I drove 3 hours to meet Long's to pick up the new table. When it got to be 1030, we called Long's and asked if something was wrong. At this point we were told "Oh, I am sorry. We meant to call you. We misquoted your price so we canceled your appointment." They then proceeded to tell us that the cost to move the table would be more than DOUBLE what we had been quoted. Furthermore, they said they couldn't come get it until the following Tuesday. I was too dumbfounded to be upset and asked for other arrangments. The employee then called Mr. Long, who was at home in Northern Virginia, and called us back to say that Tuesday was the best they could do but that Mr. Long had agreed to give us $20 off the new quote of $1000! So they misquoted the job, forgot to call us, canceled our move, cost me a day of work and 3 hours one way driving, more than doubled their quote, and then offered a $20 discount to move the table the next week. I ended up calling a competitor who said I wasn't the first unhappy customer he had from Long's and promptly came to move the table at slightly above cost because he felt bad for me. After moving the table, I sent a professional and kind email to Mr. Long hoping to at least get a personal apology. On Yellow Pages is a gentleman who also rated this business low and said he wished he could share Mr. Long's emails....boy do I agree with him! The email I got back was condescending and rude to say the least. In included typed out profanity. Who really types out profanity? Read Mr. Long's response to the other review just below this--see how he insults the customer, his house, blames him, etc. Do you hear the anger in his response below? He even went as far as to threaten me. He googled me and attempted to cast personal insults. How a person like this could still have a functional business is beyond me. For your own good, please find someone else to deal with--even if they are more expensive. If you have any second thoughts, contact me and I'll gladly send you the emails that are simply unfathomable. I understand mistakes and personally told the employee that I understood he was busy and I accepted his apology. I find no excuse for Mr. Long's behavior. Look below...I am not alone. There are other websites where you can see his true colors as well. I am certain Mr. Long will respond to me as well but I hope that you can see that I'm not a vindictive bitter customer and nor am I alone in my view of Mr. Long and his company.

Customer concern

AUTHOR: scott long - (USA)

POSTED: Tuesday, August 01, 2017

I cannot validate this review, because I did not talk with this gentleman directly.   Sometimes our employees take matters into their own hands and attempt to repair things without alerting me, and in the process, do not communicate things very well and leave a bitter taste in the mouth of what otherwise what should have been...a good customer.    I don't deny that we occasionally have a misquote or a service error, but I am always willing to work through it with the customer if they are amenable to a mutual solution.    In some rare instances, customers make unreasonable demands and are unwilling to find common ground.   I am ALWAYS willing to work toward a fair solution when we do not meet their expectations.  Please don't judge our long standing reputation with just one or two bad experiences.  We have decades of demonstrated top notch service.  Just take a look at our website on the customer review section of our website and you will see much much more. Think about it.  We have been in business for 58 years and only have two negative reviews on this forum.  And remember, there is no need to sling mud...you can always call me, and I will be happy to work toward a satisfactory outcome for any situation....guaranteed!   Thanks, Scott Long
