In the past year I have been contacted several times by Luebke Baker and Associates. The first time was by a woman who was extremely rude and was telling me that I owed an outstanding debt for magazines I received when I lived in Boston 6-8 years ago. She told me the amount I owed was over $400 but got the debt down to $168 for me if I could pay it today.

When I inquired to what magazines I supposedly ordered she started listing about 5 which included some ridiculous ones that I obviously never would have ordered. I then told her to send me information in the mail regarding this debt at my current address. She took it down and then immediately hung up.

About 4 months later I started receiving calls from another woman at LBA, Nicole, who said she was now in charge of my account. I told her, again, to send me information in the mail and again never received anything.

This went on for months--I would get calls from her and I would tell her I hadn't received information regarding this debt to which she would never have any explanation. She then told me to visit their website and enter my account number, which I did, but this didn't pull up any information, it just automatically brought me to a payment page. So basically I could never look at what I owed until I entered all of my credit card/pay pal info and my billing info.

Today I received a call from Nicole again saying that the debt was still unsettled. I then started accusing LBA of being a fraud since I had seen numerous similar reports over the internet to which she explained that they were a ligitimate collection agency. She then said that she would again send me information in the mail.

I asked if I could have the number of Publishers Marketing where I supposidly got the subscriptions from 6-8 years ago. She said she would have to speak to her supervisor about that. I also explained what happened when I had gone to the website to look at my account and she acted indifferent saying that she herself had never visited the website, she just works there!

I reiterated that I would not be paying any money to them until I had in front of me a formal document stating exactly what I owed and for what magazines. She said she would send the information again but this time said that the letter would not state what magazines I owed money for b/c they don't have that exact information from the company!

We got off the phone and a few minutes I called back to speak with a supervisor. Leslie Farrar got on the phone and I asked her if I could have the number to Publishers Marketing. She said yes but she had to warn me that as soon as I entered my account number they would re-direct my call to LBA's 800 number b/c they now handle the account. I asked how I was ever going to find out exactly what magazines I had supposidly suscribed to and she said she would have to send notice to PM to get that information but it could take a while and couldn't tell me exactly when to expect it. She then asked me if I had any recollection to ordering or receiving any magazines to which I answered, no like I had been for months now. She then said, in order to confirm I am the right person she needed to ask me if I had ever lived down in Arkansas. I answered no and she claimed that they had been contacting the wrong person all these months and Nicole should have asked me about this original address during our first conversation--Nicole had asked me about an original address but it was at the address I once lived at in Boston. Leslie said there must have been some confusion and that I won't be receiving any calls from here on out.

If you refuse to pay the debt LBA is claiming that you owe and you continue to ask them questions and catch them in their "runaround" then apparently they will drop it. At least I hope so. DO NOT PAY THESE PEOPLE ANY MONEY!
