I checked my credit report recently and was surprised to find a collection item on it. It said I owe $120 to LVNV funding LLC and the original creditor was MCI.

I never in my life had any services from MCI. I started a dispute through the credit report agency and they said their investigation will take about 30 days.

Should I wait for the results of the investigation?. What are the chances they will find the truth and delete the account from the credit report?.

Can LVNV show some fabricated proof?. What should I do if the credit reporting agency does not remove the item after the investigation?.

How should I prove that i never had any account with MCI?.

I would really appreciate if someone can help.

Thank you

Mci Accts

AUTHOR: Shadow - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, April 22, 2008

There was an entry on my CBR from LVNV FUNDING about an MCI acct, I have never had mci, So I called the number on my CBR for lvnv funding which turned out to be Resurgent Capital Services. I was advised of the opening and charged off date, I explained to the CSR that I have never had mci, the ph# that was on the acct was my grandparents and that and the area we lived in has a co-op and they had a pic-freeze on the line to stop LD companies from slamming them. The rep that I spoke with was really understanding she asked me a serious of questions but before she asked me she told me that she needed either "yes or no"

The questions were pretty simple like Did I ever set up and an account with mci or worldcom, did I ever had MCI LD, Calling card, stuff like that.. I answered to NO to all of them, she then adv me that she was going to close the acct and update with the CBR, I requested a letter for my records and she faxed me over the letter and I kept it for my records. This has been about a year or so and it hasnt been resold or anything nor has it showed back up on my credit report.

These things can be fixed but it will take some time and a bit more effort from you. You need to write to the CREDITOR rather than the credit bureaus. My experience has been that the bureaus are much quicker to correct things when the request is from the creditor.
Things to do:

FIRST - Read the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act at http://ftc.gov/os/statutes/fdcpa/fdcpact.htm.

SECOND - send a certified letter, return receipt requested, to the DEBT COLLECTOR to dispute the debt and request written validation of the debt or any copy of a judgment, or the name and address of the original creditor, and a copy of such validation or judgment, or name and address of the original creditor. Also, include a statement stating that you do not wish to be contacted again until you receive all the written debt validation information you have requested. You may also request that they explain the following:

What the money they say you owe is for;
Explain and show you how they calculated what they say you owe;
Provide you with copies of any papers that show you agreed to pay what they say you owe;
Provide a verification or copy of any judgment if applicable;
Identify the original creditor;
Prove the Statute of Limitations has not expired on this account;
Show you that they are licensed to collect in your state;
Provide you with their license numbers and/or license numbers of their Registered Agent(s).

THIRD - Once you received the written validation information requested, contact the CREDITOR (who owns the debt) via certified mail to resolve the matter.

It is important that communication between you and this debt collector be in WRITING! So, I wouldn't not talk to them, EXCEPT to obtain an address for sending a certified, return receipt requested letter to dispute and demand validation of this alleged debt.

Good Luck.
