As you are aware from our conversation on 12/6/2007 that I was not satisfied with the service that I received from M & M Moving Company. To add to my distisfaction, I was charge for 850 cubic when the truck was loaded in New Jersey. When my things were delivered to me in NC, the cubic feet was just 750. A difference of 100 cubic feet and a difference of $300.00. Some of the inventory had no red stickers on them to check agnist the article inventory list. When the onsite visit was done by Eric, I ask him not once but twice if my things would be delivered by an M & M truck and employee(s) of M & M and I was told yes both times by him at my apartment and once when I spoke to Eric a couple of days later over the phone when I was about to make my decision on which company to use. Had I been told the truth about who was delivering my things, I would not have used your company because I did not want to deal with any company that used personnel other than company employees for a move. And just in case you dont remember my original complaints were, your truck was an hour late for the pick up with no phone call to me indicating they were running late. I had to call your office to find out where the truck was. Your foreman was very rude in fact he hung up the phone on me as he was rudely debating with me my zip code because the GPS on your company truck gave him a different zip. He never once apologize for being rude or for hanging up the phone in my ear. I was told that my things would be delivered no later than the 5,6 or 7th day of December which did not happen. I was told, your onsite personnel or usually right with the cubic feet given at the visit. When Eric came to see me most of the things were packed or visible to him. I told him everything that was going, going and going. He asked me were there anything in the basement or storage which I told him no. So with this being said I saw no reason for my inventory to go from 560 cubic feet that was told to me by Eric on his visit to 850 cubic.

Reputable Movers Do NOT Charge for Long Carries or Stairs

For customer not associated with a corporate move, Reputable carriers utilize the 400-N tariff for interstate moves. This tariff requires accessorials like long carries and stair carries to be included in the price of the move - in other words, no additional charges for the service. Only corporate moves that have seperate and negotiated tariffs with the mover can charge for this accessorial, depending on whether it is spelled out in the tariff.

I have realized that you have told me that reputable company does not charge for stairs or long carry. I just wanted to tell that you made a false statement ever vanline and 99% of moving companies charge for long carry or stairs. The reason for charge for long carry and stair is because the increased time it takes to do the job which further more increases the company's expense.

Some Problems With The Response

To the owner (Ofir?),

You have some problems with the response you made:

1. If you quoted this customer in cubic feet, you should be aware that by law all cubic foot measured moves are Binding, Not-to-Exceed. Even if the customers screws with you and adds items - you as the mover are now screwed if you do your quotes by cubic foot.

2. Most reputable movers don't charge for accessorials like stair carries and long carries. I understand the elevator is out, but that needed to be a consideration when the quote was issued to the customer.


I would highly recommend you stop with the cubic foot quotes in the future because they are nothing but red flags to a lot of people. I can assure you that you will be spending a lot of time in court and you'll have lots of judgments against you if you continue with cubic foot moves.


On the other hand, there are problems with the customer as well:

1. Mr. Strickland, you said, 'As you are aware from our conversation on 12/6/2007 that I was not satisfied with the service that I received from M & M Moving Company. When my things were delivered to me in NC, the cubic feet was just 750.' That might indeed be the case. However, you also said, 'I was told that my things would be delivered no later than the 5,6 or 7th day of December which did not happen.'

Really? So, how is possible that they did not deliver the items on time when you clearly said you were not satisifed with the delivery of the items at 750 cubic feet? It would seem you received your items on time and your complaint in that regard is invalid.

2. Moving trucks being an hour late is not uncommon, especially with traffic. Late is not a rip-off unless you are being charged by the hour. A moving company's operation's department may not know someone is going to be late for as much as an hour. It happens, nobody likes it in the business, but it isn't a scam.

3. I'm wondering how much research you performed before you chose this mover? When you received a quote in cubic feet, your research should have told you that was a giant red flag. If you went by getting the cheapest price, then you screwed up. Moving is not inexpensive, as you now found out, and it will cost you as much as this mover billed you for this move.

A good move is a move where (1) the items are packed safely, (2) the items are delivered within the delivery window, and (3) the items arrive undamaged. You will note $$ has nothing to do with a good move - in fact, the most important aspect of the move is the last one - because you don't want the mover to (a) lose the items, (b) be rushed, and (c) be pressured. Each of those things leads to damage and loss, and if you think paying for a move is difficult, try having the mover lose or destroy your furniture and being reimbursed for only $0.60/lb. for valuation, per your contract. There are more stories of movers dropping a plasma TV because the consumer rushed the mover than I can remember, and the consumer received $25 for a TV that cost over $800 to replace. If you think paying for a move is expensive, try replacing broken furniture and TV's.

If anyone gets concerned about the cost aspect of a move, then they should not consider using a full-service mover. There are a lot of U-Pack, They Drive companies out there for the cost-conscious consumer, and of course there's the old "do-it-yourself" move.

In reference to the above mentioned complaint, M& M Movers states the following:
1. Mr. S--- was not overcharged for our services. There were many aspects of his move that changed the cost of the move.
A: The elevator in the building he moved from was not working and therefore the stairs had to be used instead. Our movers had to hand carry all his items down 4 flights of stairs which resulted in extra unforeseen charges.
B. Mr. S--- was made very aware of these addition carry charges before the move began.
C. delivery of his items at destination was not late. He stated that he would be ready on a certain date and was also aware of our delivery policy- 5 to 7 business days from the first day he would be ready for delivery.
2. Our long distance department most certainly did deliver his household goods. A rental truck did arrive at his home in NJ due to our tractor trailer having some minor mechanical problems. M&M Movers does not have a policy of lying to our customers.
3. Mr. S--- was advised of all occurrences during his move process, in fact, there were no less than 1 dozen phone calls between both parties during the move process.
4. Mr. S---- was very disrespectful to the M&M staff, including office and field personnel both local and long distance.
5. An onsite estimate was provided to MR. S---- the estimate was according to the items he was moving. Our estimators are as accurate as the items that are visible to them during the inventory process. If there are additional items the customer is responsible to pay for them.
6. Additionally, this company has been very responsive to Mr. S---'s needs, and even extended $268 discount to him. Please note that this was not mentioned in his complaint.

In conclusion we want to state that M&M Moving is more then happy to work with Mrs. S--- and resolve all issues at hand. Our reputation greatly matters to us.
