I just wanted to report my bad experience with MAACO in Alabama. I took my 1993 Cavalier to Maaco for a paint job. After the paint job was finished, the car had pits everywhere and paint chips. In addition, there were several areas of overpainting. I told the manager it was not acceptable. They repainted the car. This time, the windshield area was left a mess and the pits still existed. I just decided to deal with it. I then decided to take the car back after the paint started to chip and a big unpainted spot appeared near the door. I took the car back and I have to say that the car still doesn't look that good. In addition, the paint is fading. (It has only been 8 months).

Also, customer service was horrible and the people who work at MAACO are liars. I definitely would advise against anyone getting their car painted at MAACO.

I was searching the internet to find out the local location of a Maaco paint shop when I happened upon this site. If it makes you feel any better I will not even waste my time with an estimate. In some small way this my give you some satisfaction to know that at least some money was diverted from the Fairfield location of Maaco paint due to your misfortune. Thanks

people don't understand the insane amount of work that must go into a good paint job. People spend 300 dollers for a paint job and expect a show car when paint itself can cost more than this. For a good spray you must literaly take apart the entire car, strip of all the paint prime sand paint then paint it again and again. Then gloss and then again and again. Then you must rebuild the entire car.....in short 300 dollars should cover that.

TO DO A GOOD PAINT JOB IT TAKES 30 HOURS OF LABOR AND IN THE COST FOR THE PAINT JOB THAT WILL LAST MOST LIKEY IS OVER 3000 DOLLARS BECAUSE OF THE FACT U GOTTA LOOK AT THE PAINT CLOSELY AND THERE OTHERS BODYWORK THAT WAS DONE IN THE PAST TOO WITH PRIOR DAMAGE SO FOR 300 BUCKS DONT EXPECT MUCH I USED TO WORK ON CARS TILL MY HAND WENT NUMB COULDNT GRIP ANYMORE. ALL GO GET A PRO TO DO IT I SEE SHOPS PAINTERS SHOOT WITHOUT MATCHING THEM MIXES THE PAINT AND SHOOT IT THAT WILL LEAD TO MISMATCH MORE THAN LIKEY ON GOLDS AND SLIVERS AND TRI COATS A GOOD PAINTER WILL SPEND TIME MATCHING THE PAINT WHICH A TEST CARD TO SPARY IT ON TO COMPARED THE PAINTS OF BODY SURFACE VERUSUS THE CARD IT TAKES TIME TO DO AND THERE ISURANCE GUIDES GIVE U 2.3 HOURS TO PAINT A DOOR BUT IN REALITY TO DO IT RIGHT IS ABOUT 3 HOURS BECAUSE OF THE FACT PAINTERS NEVER TAKE DOOR HANDES AND WINDOWS OUT TO PAINT DOORS SO ALL THE OVERSPRAY GETS ON TO THEM SO I U WANT A GOOD PAINT TO MAKE THE CAR LOOK NEW GET A COMPLETE STRIP IT DOWN TO METAL AND DO IT THAT WAY LESS CHANCE OF A MISMATCH SINCE THE WHOLE CAR IS GETTING PAINTED PAY A COUPLE GRAND TO DO IT AND GIVE THEM TIME.

Response to the Maaco Employee, Maaco employees are schemers and liars as evidenced by the many reports against them

AUTHOR: Bettie - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, November 15, 2003

I haven't been to this site in about a year. In response to: "you got what you paid for." It is this type of attitude that will keep me from EVER going to a Maaco again.

In response to: "you are the blame for not paying for the prep work." I didn't know anything about any prep work. I was told my car would be painted and the work would last 2 years. The work lasted no longer than 2 months. The paint is now faded and oxidized two years later.

As a Maaco employee, I definitely wouldn't be proud of that. Maaco employees are schemers and liars as evidenced by the many reports against them. One man was so upset that he had a whole website dedictated to his hate against Maaco.

I am way past this Maaco issue but my greatest concern is that consumers will go to Maaco thinking they will get good service - THEY WILL NOT.

My only hope is that Maaco goes bankrupt and shuts down. What many businesses fail to realize is that customer dissatisfaction results in the business shutting down. There have many businesses that caused me dissatisfaction. I didn't complain because I knew if they were treating me that way, they were treating others the same. Sure enuff, the businesses usually end up bankrupt within a year or two.

I know that Maaco's days are limited. If I were a Maaco painter and I was an honest person, I would take that skill and transfer it to a legitimate business that has a genunine interest in building customer loyalty and striving towards customer satisfaction.

A little Investigation Goes A long Way

Something you have to keep in mind is that Maaco shops are a franchise owned by different people. With these individuals you incounter different perspective's.

While some take pride in their service others are simply looking to make a buck. My father went to Maaco many years ago for the first time and after carefully preparing the car ourselfs the paint job was disapointing and we never went back until about 5 years ago.

We fix up cars for a hobby and after hearing about the nice paint work at a different Maaco shop we decided to give them a try. The paint job turned out very nice and since then we have had no less than 12 cars painted by this shop with no complaints. These ranged from the cheapist to the mid range paint jobs.

As a matter of fact I'm getting ready to take my 1980 Corvette down to them for a paint job. So don't lump all of the Maaco shops together as they each can vary. Check them out first before making your choice

#2 UPDATE Employee

know all the facts

AUTHOR: bill - ()

POSTED: Saturday, November 16, 2002

MAACO offers 5 different paint services, each has a prep procedure designed to adhere to an existing painted surface. If that surface has defects such as, cracking, checking, peeling, or delamination, a seperate and extra process is required to address these conditions.

Extra cost are incured because more labor is equired to correct the condition prior to refinishing Customers sometimes do not wish to incur the additional cost but still want the car painted.

Painting over a crack, peeling, checking or delamination only covers the condition resulting in a shinny crack, chip, or what have you. Sometimes customer are unwilling to marry their expectations to their pocket book.

Is that MAACO's fault? Since all the facts are not known in this particular siduation, perhaps the customer should look in the mirror and do some more reflecting on what may have really been the issue. Expectation vs cost.
