I ordered Magic Jack plus to use phone service through internet and paid for 5 year contract in Feb 2012.  In August 2013 I received email that there was an updated Magic Jack Plus available for use on a 30 day trial basis.  I ordered it 8/11/2013, authorized Magic Jack to bill my credit card $41.93 if I decided to keep it,  received it, installed it and registered it on 8/15/2013.

After using it for 4 days, I realized that it was not better than the old one so I went on-line to their customer support to get the information on how to return the new one and start reusing my old one.  I was then told that in order for me to start reusing the old one, I needed to sign up for another year's contract. 

When I registered the new one, which I had to do in order for my phone to work, there were 2 selections.  A - registration of new magic jack plus or B - replace old magic jack plus.  I picked B which effectively transferred all my old information to the new one and cancelled out the old one completely.  When I requested that they transfer the information from the new device to the old device, they informed they were unable to perform this. 

There is no phone number for customer service but there is one for billing problems.  So I next called there.  Again, I was informed that since I selected Registration B there is nothing they can do.  They informed me that it stated on the web site that if I selected B that the old registration would be cancelled out. 

I think if they send you product on a trial basis there should be a way to go back to your original services without having to pay again.  I believe that this company is borderline fradualent.
