MAJESTIC FIREPLACE / VERMONT CASTINGS MAJESTIC / VERMONT CASTING FIREPLACES POOR QUALITY/DESIGN MISSISSAUGA Ontario Canada

I have built several homes and have installed fireplaces in each of the homes. After researching the Majestic/Vermont Casting brand the product was well received by distributors. I purchased a Vermont Casting Sequoia with cast iron doors and triple wall pipe. The unit was installed by a local fireplace contractor who has over 25 years of experience installing Majestic brand fireplaces. Upon completion of the interior of the house a notable amount of cold outside air was observed coming into the house. The damper of the fireplace was closed and the two (2) outside fresh air intakes were taped closed.

The cold outside air continued until the point that frost would generate on the inside grills and front glass. The contractor was notified and after several attempts to repair the cold air intake the contractor advised that he did not know what the problem is. Vermont Castings was notified and I was advised that the parent company was sold and the stove that I have was not under warranty because of the company being sold.

The company was advised that the unit was less that twelve months old and had never been used due to the completion of the construction. The company advised that it was my problem and they were no longer responsible for the fireplace. I contacted the local distributor who sent a company techincian out to observe the unit. The distributor advised that they did not know what the problem is and basically said "Your Tuff Luck".

The cold air continues to come in the house. The problem is in the design of the fireplace and its three (3) wall pipe. The two inside layers of pipe are designed to release the exhaust from the fire while the third layer of the wall pipe acts as a coolin agent drawing cold air from the outside and forcing it onto the top of the firebox and in turn forcing the exahust air back up the pipe and outside. The cold air on the third layer of pipe accumulates on top of the fire box and is redirected into the box and in turn into the room.

The company know they have a problem with the design and will not stand behind the poor quality that they have sold. I highly recommend that you chose another brand instead of Majestic/Vermont Castings for a fireplace. The product is poorly designed and the company will not stand behind the product that it sells. Let my bad luck with an inadequate product be a assitance to you in purchasing another brand besides this one. In addition, after additional research on this stove and similar stove manufactured by Majestic/Vermont Castings, I have been contacted by several people who have similar problems with this design. Spend your money on another brand of fireplace !
