Many active duty sailors rent houses in Hawaii. Basically, our deposit was $3100 and there were five of us in the house. When everyone moved the house was clean. Marcus sends us a bill for $3100 for vacuuming and dusting. This just so happens to be our deposit.
Also, we recieved a bill for thousands more for damage to the house, this included tire tracks on the lawn made by the realtors own landscaper; trash removal which were bags of grass clippings from again the realtors landscaper; and a broken garage door which was reported to the realtor from the time we moved in.
After talking with other sailors who have rented from Marcus, it seems like the same thing has been happening to them. This is an easy scam for Marcus to pull off because when the sailors move they either leave the island or go out to sea for 6 months or more. This makes it very hard to fight.
