By Lindsey Connell - bio | email WILMINGTON, NC - Undercover officers say a Wilmington massage parlor has been offering more than just massages. Members of the Special Operations Unit busted the Oasis Salon and Spa Monday night after an officer was offered sex for money inside. Police say they'd received several complaints about the business on Independence Blvd. The owner of another business told officers one of his customers was offered sex for money at the Spa and another nearby business owner said people were coming and going from the business late at night.

Online, officers say the business was offering erotic massages. When an undercover officer went in Monday, he says he was escorted into a room, told to undress and gave 46-year-old Maryellen Tiedemann $60 for a massage. Ten minutes in, he says Ms. Tiedemann whispered in his ear that he could pay her $200 for oral and straight sex or $100 for just oral sex. When he said no, he says she told him, "You didn't know that's what we do here? Well, now you know for the next time." The officer left and came back with other agents to shut the business down.

Tiedemann and another woman, 51-year-Heather Freeman, tried to run but were arrested in the parking lot. Tiedemann was hiding under a car. She was charged with Prostitution, Obstruction and with not having a practitioner's certificate. Heather Freeman was charged with Obstruction and with not having a practitioner's certificate. The women have bonded out of the New Hanover County Jail. A few stores down in the shopping center, the owner of Henry's, said he had no idea what was going on near his business. "To be honest, I don't like businesses like that around the neighborhood.

It is shocking to me but we had no idea what was going on because we mind our own business, just doing what we need to do to run our daily lives. We had no idea what was going on in the neighborhood," Police say they cannot remember the last time a Wilmington massage parlor was busted for prostitution. They say they also found beds in the back of the business, indicating that the women may have been living there. On the front door, the hours indicate the business is open seven days a week until 11 PM every night. It was locked Tuesday. One said, "Great location at the corner of a retail center. Good parking on side of building for privacy. Clean place with good looking women."

Another wrote, "Called about 45 minutes before - asked if I could come in 30-45 minutes? Did they have new girls? yes on both accounts. The way the shopping center is situated, it's partially hidden - but the neighborhood next door is an issue for me . . . As I pulled into parking lot, some fellow was leaving/getting to vehicle - drove around long enough to let him get away." A third person commented, "I was originally worried about location but, the way its situated in the strip center you can park on the other side of building and get in and out w/o much fanfare." On the site, customers also describe the women's ethnicity, age, height, build, eye color, hair color and length and their breast size. Rates range from $60-$80 and sessions were listed as lasting between 45-60 minutes.

On Wednesday, the site listed the Sun Spa as closed. According to "The Smoking Gun" web site, Maryellen Tiedemann was arrested for prostitution in February of 2009 in Tampa, Florida. The site lists her name as Maryellen Tiedemann but her booking photo shows the same woman Wilmington Police arrested. It says she was a massage parlor employee who was arrested "after allegedly offering undercover cops oral services for $150." It's not clear why she relocated 400 miles away to work at the Oasis Salon and Spa in Wilmington after she was reportedly placed in a pretrial diversion program in North Carolina. "The Smoking Gun's" latest post on Tiedemann, dated April 13, 2011, is titled "Unfortunately Named Masseuse Again Busted In Undercover Prostitution Sting."

Questionable

I have been to a location and I know that she had a sweet blonde headed little boy who was very excited about being there and happy. She didn't have any "rooms" besides the bathroom so I'm not exactly too sure about the validity of the officer that is claiming this or where and how. Did you visit the location for what you are reporting?
