Massage Envy Facts

Massage Envy Corporate office is located in Scottsdale AZ. They have massage clinics all over the US.  When you sign up on a contract, you are committed to 1 year, after which you can terminate your contract with them.  Each month they deduct your monthly amount from your bank account, even if you do not use their services. So if you get busy,  and cannot make your monthly visit, they continue to charge you regardless.  When they do, you have on the books what they call "Pre Paids"

Here is where this company takes advantage of their customer.  After the contracted year is up and  you are behind and have a certain amount of "Pre Paid" visits and want to quit, they have your money, paid in advance and will not refund you what you paid.  Now if you think that you will try to use the visits you already paid for but don't, they continue to bill you monthly no matter what.  Month after month whether you use them or not.

This is where I fall into, and it's all my fault. I signed a contract without reading it.  I got behind over 20 visits and to this day, they keep billing me even though I do not take advantage of the massages.  This is so unfair I do not know how they can stay in business, especially when there are 100 other business that do not require a contract and are cheaper per visit.

One other note that floored me when I heard this.  Massage Envy located in Scottsdale AZ receives the monthly debits from your bank and all the funds goes to them, not the clinic where you signed up for.  The clinics get paid by the corporate office when you pay a visit, and not until then.  So why would the corporate ever stop billing its customers when they fall behind,  and have many prepaid visits.  Not a bad business if you don't mind being greedy.

Massage Envy has no concern for their customers and they have to be one of the biggest rip offs that exists in our society today.

A Car is Tangible.

First let me respond to your comment.  First off your daughter bought a car and that is a tangible item. She has that to use, she paid for it, Ford made money and now she owes it to do whatever she wants.  Me, I have paid for product that I have no tangible items.   Surely you have to see the difference.  Have  you read any other complaints on Massage Envy, the web is filled with them.  A rating of 1 out of 5, is not too good.

There are other things that they do that is only good for them.  First off they will not permit me to give my "Pre Paids" to any of my friends, family or anyone who would be interested in getting a massage.  Even though I have paid for them, I can't give them away to others. You would think that if they let anyone give their "Pre Paids" to others, that just maybe they would pick up additional clients. Think about that, I would be happy, others would be happy that received my gift and the Massage Envy would more than likely, pick up business.  I need to mention, they will let you give a massage to someone else, but only once every 6 months. Why would there be that restriction, God only knows.

They have poor business practices that should be changed. By continuing to bill me month after month is not the correct way to take care of their customers.  Now, if I got a massage once a week, it would take me over a year to use up my membership.  Your right, I am the dummy to let this go so long and let a company take advantage of me.

You stated you didn't read the contract, so how is this a rip off? You signed a contract. The fact that you don't use the massages isn't their problem, it's yours.

My daughter financed a car through Ford Motor Credit. Several months later she was deployed to the MIddle East.  I can promise you, she didn't call Ford and said, "Hey, I'm deploying and won't be driving the car for a few months to I'm not going to pay you."

Valuable lesson learned.
