I was unfortunate enough to stumble upon Master Auto in May of 2016.

Skip to the last paragraph for a short version of my situation.

My 2011 Mini Cooper S overheated on 5-13-16 (give or take a day), and I pushed it across the street with the help of a Master Auto employee. He was nice, young, and appeared ignorant to the scam Master Auto is running.

The manager Jeff, whom I met inside, seemed confident yet lacking specifics and details regarding the repair. I was told the thermostat housing was cracked which caused the engine to overheat. I was quoted $300 for the $80 part and a few hours of labor. I purchased the proper part and paid for the repair. I paid $196.99 to get repairs started.

Master Auto updated me saying the thermostat housing did not fit and they will have to order the correct part. This baffled me as there is only ONE correct part and the part number on the thermostat housing I purchased was the same as the broken stock part and there are no variations. Regardless, I decided to proceed and was then quoted $560. I was told the $196.99 I already paid would be deducted from the $560 quote leaving a balance of $363.01.

The car is covered by a warranty I purchased from Velocity Motors GR when I initially purchased the car. On 5/25/16, I am informed by Master Auto that the warranty will not cover this repair. I am told the mechanic has been absent for the past few days and the car needs a new engine entirely. The engine had blown a head gasket due to the engine overheating from the cracked thermostat housing. We're quoted an additional $2,300 for a new engine. I agree to proceed, very eager to have my car back at this point and willing to pay what it takes to have it repaired...

...On 6/1/16, I'm told the mechanic has finally returned and the engine transplant will take 1 1/2 days to complete. I'm told the car will be ready Monday, June 6th, at the very latest (Monday-6/6/16)...

...6/7/16, Mechanic Jeff states they need 1/2 hour for test drive then the car will be ready for pickup. I make a $1,000 deposit payment to begin the engine transplant. A few hours later, we hear there are problems with the new engine. To my bewilderment, Master Auto has installed a 2013 Mini Cooper engine into my 2011 Mini Cooper S. (Gee, could that be why all the other parts arent' working now? *sarcasm*)

6/8/16, I'm told the engine needs a new pulley and the part will take 2-3 days to arrive.

6/9/16, Much to my surprise, I recieve a call from a Master Auto manager/owner. He states that the Mini is complete and we can come get it whenever. I pay the remaining balance of $4,200. Since I live two hours to the West of Master Auto and the shop was going to close before I could arrive, I decided to wait until the next day.

6/10/16, With the repair completely paid for, I venture out two-hours east to Redford to retrieve my car. Upon arriving, I am told they were sent the wrong engine and the car is, in fact, NOT complete. Disappointed, I drove another two hours home.

6/13/16, I'm updated that the car needs a new hi-pressure fuel pump and that the part will arrive tomorrow (6/14/16). The car will then be repaired and test driven and I will receive a call. I'm told that a belt and idler pulley had to be replaced as well and that the mechanic had already "told us".  We're told we will receive a partial refund for our inconvenience and the drive there and back.

6/21/16, Jeff and owner are extremely difficult to contact. After finally reaching them, I am told the car is done and our refund is being set up. We are told we'll only receive a $200 refund and a full tank of gas. I retrieve the car and drive it to work. I immediately notice a large decrease in performance. Accelerating over 3000 RPM would cause the "Oil pressure too low" light to come on. The check engine light was also on. The odometer did not reflect the new engine's mileage. The A/C did not work and the engine bay began getting very hot again. The car also appeared to not have any oil in it. I pulled over and had it towed to the dealership. My parents drove the two hours to pick me up. We're told engine is under the Master Auto warranty and they will fix it.

6/22/16, We're told overheating may have affected the turbo as well.

LAST PARAGRAPH: We then decided to have the car transferred to the local BMW-Mini dealership for any further repairs where it still sits as of the time of this writing (8/9/16). When the dealership found more issues with the engine, Master Auto refused to acknowledge the warranty for the engine we had been promised. They stated they had changed ownership and were no longer obligated to honor the warranty. This is AFTER we've spent ~$5,800 at their 'shop'. On top of the lack of professionalism, communication, and care, a Master Auto employee called my mother's employer to issue a false complaint stating she was 'using her position to make threats'. Needless to say, I am pursuing legal action and have disputed the charges on my credit card. I have all the documentation supporting my above statements. This is the most unbelievable and unethical company I have ever had the displeasure of working with and I would advise EVERYONE against this scam operation. They have done far more harm to the car than good as well as having greatly inconvenienced my family and me.
