We attended a timeshare presentation at Mayan Palace Rivera Maya outside of Cancun Mexico on 4/27/2014. Tiana was the sales representative and Lucas was the sales manager on our case. We stayed at the resort before and loved it so we didn't mind listening to the sales pitch. We also bought a timeshare elsewhere before so was sort of interested in exchanging if the price was right.  Long story short, we were promised guaranteed rental of $2500 per two-bedroom unit for the two units we were to buy for the next 5 years as part of the deal. Under this condition, we agreed to buy and signed all paper work, until the last step when we were interviewed by their customer service representative Vincent (I might got the name wrong but the first name started with V and the last name started with B). He started voice recording and told us that we had to give him verbal response first  then sign at appropriate places on the paper. The last question he asked was if we were promised anything else that we didn't see on the contract.  We told him that we were promised guaranteed rental for the two units for the next five years but we didn't see the guarantee in the contract, we would not agree to buy without that guarantee written in the contract. He said he had to stop the deal right there because Mayan Palace could not give us that guarantee. He went to talk to Lucas, Tiana, and another manager then came back and made two proposals - 1. We sign the final step then contact the rental company golf network to get our guarantee, if we don't like the term, then we have 5 days to cancel the contract. 2. He stops the deal right then to make the contract inactive. They will let us talk to the golf network to get the guarantee that day, then Lucas will call me the next day to get our agreement to make the contract active. We chose proposal 2 because we didn't trust thing we didn't see. All these were recorded. After we clearly stated that we chose to make the contract inactive until further notice, the service representative stopped the recording. Lucas called someone from the golf network who told use the guaranteed price of the rental but he didn't guarantee to be able to rent it out for the next 5 years which was what we were looking for, so we asked the rental company rep to email us the actual contract to review and we left the property.

We got an email the next morning from the golf network with a contract template. There was no mention of guaranteed rental so it was useless word game. I wrote back to tell them that the template didn't have the guarantee we were looking for and unless they can put that in writing, they should stop contact us. We thought the issue was resolved and we didn't authorize Mayan Palace to make that useless contract active, we didn't sign the last signature to verify they told us the truth in the sales representation.

We flew back to the states today. Before boarding the plane, my husband received a welcome email from Vida vacations, the parenting company of Mayan Palace. I just checked my credit card and found that they charged the 25% down payment on 4/27 before we finished signing all paperwork but never gave us the refund. They activated the contract without our authorization!! I immediately called several numbers on the contract but was passed around two places then was asked to call the property in Cancun.

Can someone give me the number for consumer protection agency in Cancun to report this fraud?

Mayan Palace complaints

AUTHOR: Mark Gates - (USA)

POSTED: Monday, May 11, 2015

Yes, unfortunately Mayan Palace is one of the most fraudulent resorts!!!! I also had a bad experience with them, the way they treated me, and all the lies i've heard.
The worst thing is that once you fall into their scam tactics it's almost impossible to get out.
Here's a list of complaints about this resort i've found recently,
you should take a look: timesharescam.com/timeshare-complaints-resorts-black-list/3-mayan-palace-timeshare-complaints/
Don't give up, i still have hope that sooner or later we are going to make a difference against those thieves.

I talked to the customer service department and we received the refund so the issue is resolved.

As I said before, we really liked the resort and the trading power it has (if it's true). Why couldn't the sales people simply gave us a fair market price instead of using false promises and lies. We would have bought the timeshare if they were straight with us.

Mayan Palace Timeshare Scam

AUTHOR: WalterT - ()

POSTED: Monday, May 05, 2014

The sales tactics are the same for everyone at the Mayan Palace timeshare resorts. Hard sell, disrespectful when you say no, broken promises. DO NOT think for one moment that you have an upper hand...these are professional con artists highly trained to take your money. You have no chance of ever seeing your money again or receiving anything close to the value you were promised. Assume that everything posted by Grupo Mayan and its affiliates is a lie or a scam. Never do business with this company; never buy a mayan palace timeshare scam.
