In 2002 I spent the extra money and bought a Maytag Washer, thinking it would last for years. It started making a loud racket during the spin cycle and leaking over the weekend. The repairman came on Monday and informed me that "Center seal is worn out, spin bearing and assembly are bad too ... Do Not Recommend Repair", and to top it off - he informed me that is wasn't even a Maytag! It is a Norge?! What is a Norge?

The repairman said that Maytag bought out Norge and simply put their name on the Norge washing machines that I apparently bought! The Norge model I have is not not even repairable because parts are hard to find and not cost effective to even repair.

I think this is a huge ripoff on Maytag's part and have contacted the company. I haven't heard back yet.

If you have had similar problems, please email me. I now know of 2 other people having similar problems. I think another class action suit is in order. Talk about fraud! Spending the big bucks for a "trusted" name brand and now find out it wasn't even what I purchased?!

my point is how can I trust them anymore after seeing this situation several times in the appliance reviews (that I know about)how can I trust them on products that I know nothing about? it's not my place to school cr on appliances their the ones makeing the big bucks they should be smart enough to figure out who makes what.

Well, George, did you write CR and ask them to explain?

AUTHOR: Thomas - (U.S.A.)

After all, the soecific machines they happened to test may or may not have been twins under the hood, and CR does make mistakes. But most of the time they are pretty close to the mark. Using CR results to buy something you know nothing about is a lot better than blindly spending your money on something you know nothing about. When you gamble, the house usually wins.

I do not use CR for selection of audio equipment because I know a lot more than they know about audio equipment, and also my interests in audio are far from the mainstream that CR evaluates for. I also tried to get CR to evaluate up-converting dvd players, such as the ones available at OPPODIGITAL right now. CR preferred to talk about blueray and superDVD which will directly offer 1080p dvd's and dvd players but for higher prices.

cr

AUTHOR: George - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, March 23, 2007

at one time I read cr all the time till I got into the appliance industry at that time I read several ratings that made no sense. just one example a whirlpool & roper washer have the same working parts why was the whirlpool at the top of the list and roper at the bottom if they are made with the same parts? I can remove the cabinet from both machines set them side by side and they can't be told apart, situations like this is why I question there ratings and do not read it anymore.

Now, Now, George... Consumer Reports data show Maytag's reliability "issues"

AUTHOR: Thomas - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, March 22, 2007

so calm down. I bet you have never even READ Consumer Reports- correct?

CR accepts NO advertising nor do they accept any 'company contributions'. CR does NOT allow anyone to use their reports to sell products without CR's written permission- and CR NEVER gives anybody written permission to use their reports to sell anything. If anyone does use CR reports to sell anything, a reader will tip CR off and CR's lawyers then call the offending party. On occasion, CR has had to go to court to enforce their No Commercial Use of CR Reports policy, and CR has won in court EVERY time.

Have you won every time, George?

consumer reports/class action

AUTHOR: George - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, March 22, 2007

don't trust consumer reports they are either paid off or stupid look on this website or e pinions.com to hear from real people. being a ex maytag home appliance center owner and servicer I can tell you that they are thousands of people in the same boat your in. maytag is a expert at making you think that your machine is the only one that gave a problem but don't fall for it.a class action sounds very good it is bad enough to be decieved at the time of purchase but to find out that almost every washer has defective tub seals and maytag is hiding it and has no real fix for these washers except to put the same defective seal back in it should get someone mad enough to sue . I would be glad to help anyone willing to go forth with a class action

You need a new washer, so...

AUTHOR: Thomas - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, March 20, 2007

go to your public library and in the reference section they should have Consumer Reports for you to read. Or you can subscribe, either to their paper magazine or to their online site. Or both. Then research washing machines.

CR will tell you how well the different brands and models perform, and CR will ALSO tell you about each brands' reliability. This is a lot cheaper than blowing $700 [or whatever] on another disappointment.... don't you think?

Happens with more equipment than you think....

Think some of the late '70s-early '80s John Deere mowers were made by Deere? Think again-they only had Deere's name put on them. Think all of their s****.> Think that new Toro riding tractor being sold in Lowes/Home Depot is made by Toro? Think again-only had their name put on it.

There is alot of consolidation and companies being bought by others all the time in order to use the resources of those companies.
