I purchased a Maytag washing machine because I wanted a reliable product. I have had the machine for 13 months and in that time period there have been three service calls on the machine. Excessive vibration,a timer problem, and now the center support and seals have failed. The machine has had to be removed from my home and taken to a shop to be rebuilt.

I was told by the repairman that this was a common problem on this particular model that was purchased though Home Depot, and that Maytag was aware of the problem. Obviously they are, because they authorized repair of the machine free of charge even though it is just outside of the 1 year warranty. My complaint is that I feel I should be given a free extended warranty by Maytag because this machine is not trustworthy.

Honestly I think that there should have been a recall on these machines and that they should have been replaced. But I did not even ask for that, but only a free extended warranty. Instead they want me to purchase one, which is adding insult to injury in my opinion.

I had a White-Westinghouse washer, which is an off brand, and had it ten years with only 2 service calls. I bought a Maytag for reliability and this is what I got. I will never purchase a Maytag product again. If they stand behind their products it certainly isn't evident, otherwise they would furnish the extended warranty free of charge. They must be concerned that there will be more breakdowns, as it was explained to be by a Maytag spokesperson from the Home Depot department, that there is a differnce between the company provided extended warranty and the extended warranty available for consumer purchase.

Under the company provided extended warranty, the contracted service providers are paid at a lower rate than they are paid under the consumer purchased plan. The spokesperson told me that it wasn't fair to expect the service providers to do these repairs at a lower rate. That is not my problem, that is their policy, and perhaps they should change that.

That is not fair to me, nor is it fair to the service providers, and Maytag must be concerned that there will be many more repairs needed on this model. I urge everyone that reads this to think twice before you purchase anything from Maytag as they do not stand behind their products as advertised. The model number is #SAV205DAWW purchased at Home Depot.
