Dex/Embarq contacted us in June 2008 to offer us an internet "service" to funnel more clients to our business for $150/month. They didn't enter our company info correctly, waited 2 months to do so, and then did not fix the problem when I brought it to their attention in October. I told them to cancel the account and credit the amounts I had paid because they couldn't get the info right. They refused. I've sent several emails and spoke with many account reps from Dex since then and recently wrote a letter clearly detailing all the reasons and conversations I've had with them as to why they needed to write it off.
Last week, Judy at ext 4373, from MB&W, called me about the $1367 due and that I needed to pay it that day. She said she had read my letter but I was still going to pay for it. I was sick when she called, told her no I wouldn't and hung up.
On 2-22-10, Judy called me back to tell me that we had made a payment on that bill in December, November, October, and September 2009 making the bill a valid claim on the part of Dex and due immediately by us. I told her those payments were for a completely different account with Embarq Yellow Pages with the account number appendaged to each check as to which acct it was to be applied--not hard to tell considering the amount ($74-not $150) and the address is different than for Dex bills! She said, "Well Embarq applied parts of these payments to this account because they knew this other bill was valid." I said, "That's ridiculous! They don't do that nor would they have the right to apply a designated payment to a completely different account. And, if they did, that was their choice, not mine. I don't have any control over what they do with my payments anyway so again that's their choice. Besides that though, why would my other account show that it was paid off if they took part of it and applied it to another account?!" All the while, Judy is talking over me and says, "You owe the bill. You will pay the bill." I said, "No I don't and no I won't. And I'm not tolerating anymore of your harrassing calls. You can talk to my attorney from here out." "NO, I will not be talking to your attorney!, she says, "I will continue to call you and harrass you until you write me a check for $1367!" This whole time, I am telling her the above and finally I got fed up and said, "Now listen b***h! I'm not.." and before I could get the rest out she says "Oh now that's not a very nice thing to call your mother! You really shouldn't call your mother such names!" Now she's yelling at me at which time I just hung up!
I cannot believe the "tactics" they use that they think are going to work! I've been nice but focused and firm with Embarq. It's been frustrating for sure but nothing like this. It really sends out a whole different message about the reputation of Dex/Embarq/Sprint/Century Link when they hire unscrupulous companies such as these! Come on, you gotta know better!
