MeadWestvaco Closes 8 USA manufacturing plants and moves to China Glen Allen Virginia

My husband and I worked for MeadWestvaco for 32 years. They used to be Mead, famous for pee chees, trapper keepers, five star and cambridge. They started buying up smaller companies a few years ago, then closing them down and laying off all employees. Mead was bought by Westvaco a few years back and the plant closures started faster. They sold off the forestry mills and paper manufacturing plants. Then they started closing the plants that manufactured school and office supplies.

They said they were doing this to cut costs. What they were doing was cutting jobs and slowly sending work to China. They closed 8 companies in the USA and laid off 100's of life time employees. Some of the towns had no other places to work. Full families worked all their lives for this company. Several people killed theirselves when faced with no job and no way to take care of their families.

They have not lowered the price of their school and office supplies since moving production to China. The big guys are just lining their pockets as they walk over the dead bodies of past emploees.

MeadWestvaco just sold their Garden Grove plant for over $17,000,000! Do you think they could have took at least $1,000,000 and helped their former employees? No! the big guys are getting richer and they could care less for the loyal employees that gave their whole lives to make this company.

These employees can not find work in this bad economy. There are too many young people looking for work also, so compotition is great. Their unemployment has run out. They can not feed or house their families. It should be illegal for companies to treat their loyal employees this way and make a extreamly large profit over the laying off of hundreds of employees.
