I first became interested in this Phlebotomy class at Medright because I wanted to pursue a career at Beaumont Hospital. I did my research about the school and class and was led to believe that this was a legitimate program. They claimed that we would "gain knowledge in the history, theory and step by step instruction on how to safely perform venipunctures." They also stated that we would be using the "most up to date equipment."

However, once the class began, no such equipment was seen and we hardly gained any experience in the lab. With only four labs, twelve venipuncture draws total, students were not provided with ample and thorough instruction in order to be able to accurately perform a venipuncture. The majority of the students did not have sufficient medical knowledge or background to perform directly on each other without prior experience in drawing on simulated patients.

I was also lead to question weather or not Mrs. Thomas had the proper credentials to teach the program. She was very unprofessional and used passive aggressive comments to provoke the us, using a very condescending manner.  Also, she did not take the time or put in the effort to make sure we were learning the material. All she did was give us study guides and told us to find the answers in the book without proper review methods.

on one specific occasion Mrs. Thomas lashed out at the students accusing us of stealing the butterfly needles (winged infusion set). Later on she personally accused me of having taken the needles without any reason because she failed to do a correct count on the supplies. She immediately threatened to call the police and have us searched and any student who would not consent would be terminated from the program.
