Being a non insulin dependent diabetic, my 29 year old son was unable to obtain health insurance. ( He is self employed). I read about this company on the internet and spoke with a representative where I specificaly told her that my son was uninsurable, secondary to the diabetes. The sales person assured me and my son that this would not be an issue, since Mega Life Insurance insured people who were uninsurable.

The agents presented to my home, all paperwork was completed and the premimun and the association fees were paid. Approximately one week later I learned that the company denied coverage for my son, secondary to the diabetes.

After learning this, I made many attempts at contacting the sales agents. Numerous calls and emails were made to the agent that I originally spoke with, however, she never returned any of my calls or emails. The district manager finally returned my calls, however, promised to see why the company rejected my son's application for insurance. This was over a year ago and as of this date, I have not received a follow-up call.

My impression of the sales staff is one of liars and I would like to get the word out to the public, that they are not to be believed. Pleaase explore other insurance companies if you are an individual with a chronic condition and cannot be insured under a traditional health/life insurance company. United American has since insured my son without incident.

I would like to note however, that the association fee and the premium my son paid to Mega, was returned without incident.

#2 UPDATE EX-employee responds

It was probably a new agent

I'm an ex-agent. The agent that sold your son was probably a new agent. The turn-over for agents in this company is incredible. She probably simply didn't know enough about the product she was selling or she may have wanted to simply make a sale. However, it is not policy of the company to cover the uninsurable. On the contrary, the company actually tries to keep the risk pool low to keep rates down, more so than many other companies.

#1 Consumer Suggestion

call your states Department of Insurance and let them know about this agent so we can make sure that people like this are not out there scaming others

I am sorry to hear about your experience with Mega, i am not defending anyone but you, it is not Mega Life's policy to insure the uninsurable. What the agent did was to write the policy to get a check from Mega knowing the policy would not be issued. I would suggest that if you have the name of the agent to call your states Department of Insurance and let them know about this agent so we can make sure that people like this are not out there scaming others.
