I want to express my disappointment after having visited a local Meineke location for an oil change. I went in with a coupon in hand that says $19.95 in big red letters. However the total amount turned out to be a whopping $30. A man at the counter says to read the small print. It states "additional disposal and shop supply fees may apply". I assumed that these "fees" are traditionally a few $$, but no, the shop had their own ideas.
Remember that gal in Meineke commercial who is happily chanting, "My Money, My Choice, My Meineke"? She must have failed to read the small print, too.
$10 for the shop materials? What do they use, gold plated wrenches?
When you appeal to the meineke website, their standard response is that "we aim to provide all customers with quality service at a reasonable cost. As each shop is individually owned and operated, prices are fixed by the free market that exists in each area. Since the corporate headquarters does not regulate pricing, each shop can opt out of participating in a special or coupon offering".
Their advertising is misleading. Instead of preaching about my money - my choice - my Meineke, why don't they disclose the fact that their shop materials bear an exorbitant price - more expensive than anywhere else. They are promoting their coupons while at the same time being aware that the additional charges are up to an individual franchise.
Yep, taken for a ride by a local franchise. Free market, huh?
NEVER AGAIN.

Stop messing around with these stupid shops where the "mechanic's" last job was Manager of French Fries at McDonald's. Find a good independent shop and form a relationship with them. I mean a real shop with full equipment and very experienced real mechanics. Such a place is not Walmart or a quick oil change place and isn't some guy who does this work in the evenings or operates out of a storage unit.

My car takes 5 or less quarts of reg oil, and does use a standard filter. This usually cost somewhere under $25. Next time I'm going to the Rainbow Muffler.

Did your car take 5 or less quarts of regular oil and use a standard filter?
I agree, if they indeed charged $10 JUST for shop materials, they are a Ripoff.
They DO have the right to charge for special oils, more than 5 quarts and a better oil filter.
