This company has no idea how to treat employees.  Of course they don't pay enough for what they expect, but for a company that rakes in the money like they do, they could sure as h do more.  They charge them 200.00 whenever something happens, accident, hello thats why they call it an accident. And don't they have insurance for that?

They hire people who do not and cannot do their job, and those that can and do are the ones who are treated like sh.  They are kicked around like so much crap.  This particular person has interviewed for a job that he would be well suited for and they told him they were waiting for "more interest".  There are full time positions in other positions he would be well suited for and same thing.

Certain people of certain ages are discriminated against, even tho this company claims  they are not doing so. They give the hours and jobs to the ones who do not even work. They walk around the store looking like they are working and not really doing a single thing.  You know the kind.  And this is what this company seemingly rewards, for what?  So we can pay more for everything?

Not to mention all the stuff they just throw away, nothing wrong with it, just can't get top dollar for. Now our dumps are full of stuff that should not be there.  I will not shop there until I hear there has been  some changes have been made!!!!!!   How bout you????

#4 UPDATE Employee

Lets break this down some...

AUTHOR: Kilrath - (United States of America)

POSTED: Wednesday, May 02, 2012

First of all, employee treatment varies a bit from location to location but in general if an employee is having issues within their unit there are a number of options to fix the issue.  Just to name a few, talk to the management, call the team member aware line, send a letter to the general office, all of these can be done pretty easily and usually problems are fixed pretty quickly (at least in the Menards that i work at).

Second, the pay isn't bad, its better than wal-mart or target or kohls, or a number of other retail stores and you are expected to do no more work at menards than you are expected to do at any of those other stores.

Third your claim that they charge you $200 every time an accident happens is missing some information.  The things that people get charged for are when they cause damage to a large amount of merchandise or property, amounts exceeding $500 if i remember correctly.  This charge is just part of the insurance deductible, just because some of those other companies might not charge for something happening doesn't make this an unfair practice.  If you break an overhead door, i'm fully supporting you getting charged part of the repair costs.

As far as menards hiring people who can't/don't do their job, there are a few of those no matter where you go but they never last long.  As soon as management has decided that they aren't working out the person in question is gone.

On the claim of Discrimination i would have to say you are unfortunately wrong here as well.  In the store that i work at we have managers ranging from 23-65 who have been working for menards anywhere between 2 and 25 years.

As far as being told that Menards was waiting for more interest for a particular job opening, that was likely true, we had an unfilled receiving manager position for about 2 months because only 2 applications had come in for it that were qualified, a few days later another 3 or 4 had arrived and then they made a decision, in general menards like to have at least 3 options for anything (including work being done to the building by an outside vendor)

On the comment of the people who get the hours being the ones who don't work, i can assure you that isn't true (at the very least in our unit) if you are not doing your job chances are you are getting sent home early or getting terminated.  As to people looking like they are working but doing nothing, sure you might see some of that, again its something that's almost inevitable in retail, but there are quite a few jobs that you may not look like you are doing much as you complete them but you are still very busy.  Examples include inventory, pricing, cross merchandising, checking new plan-o-grams, ect.

On the note that Menards throws away quite a bit of product, the stuff that gets thrown out is defective, its stuff that was returned because it didn't work, or stuff that came in broken.  We don't just go pitching everything that we want to.  Besides that we recycle quite a bit of the material that comes back and in many cases items that are defective are sent back to the vendor that we received it from.

Hello Ramjet

I agree...whether a person/corporation annually generates $50K, $500K, or $5,000,000,000, the tax bracket should be the same. That, however, is the opposite of what President Obama proposes.

Perhaps, the problem in the past three years resulted from the 'Yes' people, or inacting controversial policy without consent of the American majority, not to mention blatant disregard to the Constitution. Over 40% of every dollar we generate goes towards government, threatening the capitalistic society for which our fathers held great pride, yet the 'entitlement generation' now both takes for granted and abuses. There is not enough money in the pot to pay for the proposals of the current administration. The government has taken out more than is being put in. Or, put differently, Senator Everett Dirksen quipped, "A trillion here, a trillion there, pretty soon it adds up to real money.", when referring to the deficit problem the current administration is continuing to grow.

I respect your opinion, Ramjet. I also agree that politics are best left to another format. I hope that you would also respect my opinion...the agree to disagree deal. Good luck to you.

Menards

We have a local Menards store and I know several people who work there.  They are all happy and consider it a good place to work.

Incidentally, I hope the Government insists that even very rich folks have to pay the same tax rate as everyone else.  Also, I cannot believe this country doesn't provide some kind of health like most of the other civilized countries.  Mr. Obama is an excellent president and will have my vote. He could actually make some progress if it weren't for the 'party of NO'.

I don't think politics should be discussed here at all, but I had to respond to these silly comments.

Considering the description of that employee, it makes him/her sound like a disgruntled middle aged (or older) person whom has had an 'accident'. This employee also feels that Menards does "hire people who do not and cannot do their job", but that he/she is obviously an exception to that rule.

What is a bit peculiar is the similarity of tone when comparing the description of the employee and the OP of this complaint. Almost sounds like the same person.

Why would this OP muddy the employee's dilemma with exaggarated claims of dumps being full due to Menards alone? That doesn't sound like a crime to me. It doesn't even sound immoral. If it were true, however, perhaps the local thrift stores should be informed.

It also appears that the employee/OP has become preoccupied with watching younger employees, with bitter and judgmental eyes. That behavior can only be detract from one's job performance, and contribute to the negative self-fulfilling prophecy of being passed over by the oh so mean Menards management.

This complaint does not verify any wrong doing on the part of the Menards location this person is employeed at, let alone all the other Menards locations in the country. To infer that all Menards locations should be avoided, because of one disgruntled employees opinion, may reflect the same irrationality that has caused job positions to pass him/her over. Personally, I have enjoyed shopping at menards for years and years, and will continue to do so. I facetiously refer to my $500K property as my Menards home (though there is a variety of contruction materials purchased via Craigslist.) I have always tried to locate the best quality versus cost products. In my opinion, Menards wins my business. There are many other good retailers to pick from too.

Perhaps the solution for this OP would be to vote for Obama's second term. He will raise taxes on the large 'rich' businesses to punish them for profitting. Those businesses will subsequently need to compensate for the higher tax cost by laying off employees. When the employees are laid off, they can jump on Obama's lifetime unemployment compensation (paid for by hard working Americans). Afterall, this is America and 'they' owe us.  And when children are crying and dying while waiting for the socialized Obama health care (for which their are not enough hard working Americans to financially support), this OP can be satisfied in knowing that their will be less children to compete with in the workforce for which he/she holds so much distaste.
