I purchased a 2001 Mustang Covertible from the used car side. Being drawn in by "Buy one get one free deal". The free car after hours and hours of searching the back lot of broken down, smoking, as is vehicles we settled on a 1997 Monte Carlo. (to our knowledge the A.C. was the only thing not working properly, we have since learned the transmission needs to be replaced)(so far this is all we know).

I thought at the time, hey good deal, I realized they would bump up the price on the Mustang a bit to cover the "free" car. Cash Price of Mustang $11210.50. After adding taxes, fees, I was also talked into GAP Insurance (an insurance that covers the vehicle at 150% NADA value if it is declared a total loss) Hint right here i am being overcharged for the vehicle. GAP Insurance cost $600. I was also talked into a Protective Life Insurance with total disability at a cost of $947.78, And a Service Contract ( was told by the Finance Manager with initials J.R. it would cover everything including the top ( I asked this several times) yes, including the top.) for 30,000 miles or 3 years for $2000 (since I have learned from the internet and others not to pay more than $1500 for a service contract). Grand Total $16128.05.

Since then I have Learned from Kelly Blue Book at (((ROR redacted link))) the car in excellant shape is worth $10,745 it is far from Excellant shape so the value is lower than this. I noticed when purchasing it had a newly repaired/patch job on the convertible top. No worries I have insurance. Ha Ha. I also noticed a sound coming from the rear of the car, I figured a covertible i am hearing the tires. Then when applying the brakes i could hear a weird noise. The brakes finally after awhile and after being warmed up would fade down.
I have owned this vehicle since May 25, 2006 It is Sept 14. I have put 3000 miles on it.

I called Menlove to service it and fix these problems. They refused it saying it was a Ford. They tried to send me to their assistant ford dealer. I decided to go to Ed Kenley Ford in Layton whom I strongly recommend. After replacing bad differential bearing, right axle, and bearing and seal on the rear end (rear noise) And Bad Master Brake Cylinder (brakes)( I also payed for Safety Inspection at Menlove obviously over looked). I also had them look at repaired/patch job which has since blown out another hole because there is a bracket that everytime you open the top, pokes into it. Ed kenley say's that the top is not a covered item on a service contract. The service contract purchased through Menlove with a deductible of $100 was used to cover the fixable items. I also asked about the keyless entry Key chain Menlove gave me (which has never worked)It is not the right one for the car and will never work. So I asked about a second key since Menlove only gave me one. I was told one key for this car is up to $100 it has a theft chip in the key that will not let you start the car without the right key.

Next day I went down to Menlove to ask if they would pay the deductible on the things that should have been fixed before it even left their lot, Fix the hole in the top, Give me a remote that works and pay to have a second key made. After speaking to the Finance Manager that told me the top was covered under service contract he sent me away with the used car salesman that sold me the car saying it was a missunderstanding between he and I about the top. The salesman initials R.C. took off with the keys and then the car. Came back after about 10 minutes headed me out the door saying it was fixed. I said what about the other issues and asked if he would sit down and talk with me. He finally did and I just asked ok what about the $100 deductible and $100 for the key. That is $200 that is not that much to ask (he already repaired/patched the hole in the roof) (with the same color and textured material used before). He agreed and left the booth, another man sat down i told him a smaller version of what was going on, oh R. will take care of it. Then a bigger man I didnt even look at his name said he was the used car manager came in, said if these things were taken care of before I drove off the lot he would'nt have a problem with them. That I knew i only had 1 key and should have asked then. I said I didnt have any idea that a key would be $100 I am used to the corner store at less than $2.He said there was no way Menlove would take care of any of it.

I said you wont pay $200 to satisfy a customer. He said "No".I said have you heard of ripoffreport.com, He said "yes" I said well Menlove has 1 bad report and I will be sending in another one. He said you can not hold us hostage for a deductible and a key. I walked out telling the couple in the next booth I wouldnt buy anything from these guys if I were them. The patch job on the roof is the same exact as when I purchased the vehicle.

Does anyone know of anything I can do about this? Law suits filed or that can be filed? If not I hope everyone will read this and not be a Menlove ripoff customer.
I would also love to hear if anyone did get a good deal on the buy one get one free. To me it is a ripoff.

The "free" car, Monte Carlo lasted 1 year. The Transmission went out. The overpriced Mustang after 1 year the motor went out, glad I had the overpriced Warranty, which I had to fight, (they have a clause in the statements will not pay for damage due to carbon buildup on piston rings) Every motor has some carbon buildup on the piston rings and when they (the warranty company) found out I wasnt just another mechanically deficient female, and after a month of having the car at a dealer, finally agreed to a used motor from a junk yard sent from somewhere back east. The mechanic at the dealer told me this motor has carbon buildup on valves. It lasted 3 months. Replaced again, I think now I have recieved a decent motor, went through a neighborhood mechanic shop, not a dealer. Top- still hasnt been fixed. Note: Ford dealers in Utah can not fix covertible tops. Why do they sell them then?

Menlove refused to help I have a $100 deductible for each problem its up to $300 so far. I cant sell it, I still owe more than its worth. Strangely enough the "free car" was valued at $3000 which is close to how much over book value I still owe after 2 years.
