Had 3 service items done on a recently purchased 1995 E320 convertible -- all needed rework
1 --- Had to have new license plate holder painted --- they painted it wrong color ( top body color ) then repainted it to match lower body color but bad match and was not done with proper color identification
2 --- Had water hoses replaced and they "pressure checked" after installation --- found puddles in garage and saw that the water cap had to be replaced which they did not see
3 -- Car would not start and when I got it to them they said problem was in neutral safety switch which they replaced --- 3 weeks later got stuck with same problem out of town and MB dealer found intermittent broken cable that was real cause of problem --- they would not honor waranty

May I suggest you start a business relationship with a good, independent shop in your area? You will pay thru the nose for substandard service from a dealer...as you have seen. When I say "independent shop", I mean a real mechanic who has a real, fully equipped shop. I do not mean Walmart, the local quick oil change place or somebody who's "shop" consists of what he can cram into a storage shed! Your first question to a prospective shop owner is: "Do you have experience, training and a track record working on the MB?" If you should replace this car with a new MB with a factory warranty, remember, it is ILLEGAL for any MB or any other dealer to tell you "you must get your non-warranty work done at our dealership otherwise your factory warranty will be void." That is a bold faced like, pure BS or whatever congame you want to label it. As per the "Magnusson-Moss Act" you can have your non-warranty covered work done anywhere YOU choose (or do it yourself) WITHOUT voiding the factory warranty.
