Merchants' Credit Guide ripoff trying to collect on an old debt already paid scam Chicago Illinois

Merchants' Credit Guide Co. sent me another letter saying they purchased a defaulted account. Demanding settlement. The thing is - this was paid a couple years ago, and six months ago, when I got this same letter I had to dig out the canceled check to the previous creditor and send it to Merchants' Credit Guide Co. This time when I called, the rep was so rude and told me that I couldn't have called them before, as they just bought my account, and he didn't care if I had a cancelled check or not, that didn't prove anything - He said " If I mark on my check for my mortgage payment PAID IN FULL, that didn't mean anything and it didn't mean I didn't owe on my house". I am disgusted with these people. I googled the company name and found this site with numerous complaints.
