Merchat Credit Guide Sent me a letter about $350 I owed AT&T Chicago Illinois
*Consumer Comment: What Damages?? You can sue them in Small Claims court
I got this letter from Ken Hughes at Merchant Credit Guide stating that I owed them (originally AT&T) about $350. This was untrue. So I sent them a "prove it" letter I found on this site. It has been over the 30 days, so I assume they dropped it.
However, I do not want to let it slide. I spent 2 hours responding to their claim, about $6 on the certified mail.
What are my options? I want to sue them in small claims court for cost/time and punitive damages - they seem to be doing this to hundreds of people all over the country.

What Damages?? You can sue them in Small Claims court

You can sue them in Small Claims court the for the $6 you spent, but you won't win for your time.
What punitive damages do you think you have? They sent you a letter... you responded and told them basically to prove it or drop dead... they dropped dead... you have no damages other that high blood pressure.
A lot of collection/collector ripoffs we see here are much more problematic than yours. If I was you, I would pull my credit reports and see if it is listed there. If that's the case THEN you have damages.
Other than that, you got off lucky.
